Terps football assistant Greg Gattuso hired as Albany's head coach

From what I understand, he was well-liked and will be missed. Now here's the kicker:

A potential candidate to replace Gattuso might be former Maryland head coach Ron Vanderlinden, who was fired a few days ago after spending the past 14 years at Penn State as a linebackers coach.

His name came up before when they were looking for a DC and hired Stewart instead. But now that he is unemployed, wonder if he'll be more inclined to consider a return.

This is big news. Gattuso is an incredible coach. His recruiting skills and coaching skills made Joe Vellano and A.J. Francis what they were/are today. Great coach, will be missed. But obviously the best of luck to him at Albany, he deserves it.

I'm just hoping they don't lose Stewart. Would be nice to have an extended run with the coordinators.

Agreed. But Stewart is a very good candidate for head coach somewhere, plus he has good NFL experience. And I love me some 3-4 defense.

Gattuso will be on the sideline for the Military Bowl before heading to Albany.
