I saw that Larry Brown is giving college coaching another try. Not sure how long he is going to stay here, especially since there's discussions about who his replacement would end up being. Anyone have thoughts about any of this?

I have no idea about the situation, but if SMU were smart, they'd have a coach-in-waiting. Brown goes through coaching positions like a Mongolian in China.

From what I can gather either a) SMU needed a big name coach since they are moving to another conference or b) Larry Brown is bored, looking to stay relevant, or both. A coach-in-waiting does make sense. Larry Brown doesn't say in one place very long.

I think both. But bottomline you can be assured that the AD has a plan or if he doesn't he's an idiot. Men's basketball is only the 2nd most important program of an athletic department. Every AD has a short-list of candidates at all times in case, a job unexpectedly becomes vacant. From what I can gather either a) SMU needed a big name coach since they are moving to another conference or b) Larry Brown is bored, looking to stay relevant, or both.
