MLB.com: O's close to adding Francisco Peguero
http://brittghiroli....adding-peguero/

Ghiroli just tweeted that its not done yet but DD has confirmed they are working towards getting it done.

He turns 26 in June and was recently a top 100 prospect, according to BA.

He doesn't look that special to me, stat wise...but if they end up putting him on the 40 man, as it appears they will do, I wonder if that means an end to McLouth?

Not according to Britt:

Brittany Ghiroli @Britt_Ghiroli 1h

The pending Peguero deal would be depth & has nothing to do with Orioles interest in Nate McLouth. Club still wants him back at right price.

I would think he'd be stashed at Norfolk in case of injury.

Don't buy it...Of course, if they could get him for a 1/4 deal, they would keep him but they know they can't.

Peguero has some talent and while not special, would be a nice addition, with some upside. I like it.

I hope McLouth is simply viewed as a 4th/5th OF and pinch runner, and not as a starter in LF.

I like McLouth...he was a nice story in 2012.  But, I would almost rather see what Reimold could do out there if he's fully recovered from his injury.   McLouth doesn't really do anything all that well.   He gets into MAJOR funks at the plate for extended periods of time.  He can't throw, and he's not great at getting a read on balls in the outfield.

I hope we have another plan for LF.   But, I'm afraid we don't.

Right...Nothing wrong with taking a shot at him but you can't rely that he will be anything.

With guaranteed deals given out to Reimold and Pearce and now this signing, I am highly doubting that McLouth comes here.

Nate has his issues/limitations, but he was a 2.5 win (fwar) player last year.

They've got a handful or two of guys on the 40-man that I've never heard of before.  That's not promising.

I'm fine with Nate and a lefty-masher in LF next season as long as we make improvements elsewhere.

If all we can afford to do this offseason is sign Nate McLouth as our big splash...

I understand, he has his skill-set, and it works for him, however, I believe that we should look for a better permanent option in LF. It's not a knock on McClouth, just a preference.

If we can only afford to add $10M or so in payroll over where we are now, then I don't think we'll be able to find a better permanent option in LF.

Of course, if we can only spend $10M or so in free agency, I don't think giving half or more of it to Nate is a really great use, either.

Every time I read "see what Reimold can do" I want to puke.

Since we don't covet players that are on other rosters....

....apparently we covet the players that can't make those rosters.

O's sign Peguero.

Here's a clip from a semi-recent Fangraphs write up on him.  Another OF with a poor plate approach.  Spectacular.

[EDIT: Oops.  Just noticed the other thread on this guy.  Please merge/delete/obliterate.]

Power is not a big part of Peguero’s game but that same contact said he possesses the best bat speed in the organization. It helps him compensate for an aggressive approach at the plate that also includes poor pitch selection. Although Peguero may never possess more than average offensive production, he’s a plus defender with a plus arm that profiles well in right field.

Looks like they signed him to a ML deal.  Not positive, but it appears he's out of options.

Appears that 2011 he should have been on the 40, options used in '12 and '13, which would explain why he's not still on the Giants roster.

So now we have 3 RHed hitting corner OFers on with MLs deals, no options.

I mean, if you are coming out of Spring Training needing a modest RHed corner OF option, the Orioles are the place to shop.

McLouth is only coming back if he is signing something similar to last year...which he isn't.

I'm starting to think that's the case as well.  Reimold will be the Opening Day LF unless he hurts himself in Spring Training.  So say 50/50.
