Posananski is doing a HOF chat right now: http://hardballtalk....f-fame/#respond

He answered a couple of my questions:

Comment From Michael Weber
Should the writer who voted only for Morris (with the odd logic of him being the only deserving candidate that did not play in the steroid era) have his vote taken away?

I'm not much for taking votes away but, honestly, I think the whole process should be reconsidered.

Comment From Michael Weber
Are most voters really not aware of steroid use before the "steroid era" or are they just willing to look the other way? And why are greenies ignored? Because then they'd have to be outraged by childhood favorites like Mays, Hank, etc?

I'll admit this frustrates me some. I really don't like the way everyone just drew a line in 1994 like that's when everything began. It's nonsense. I can't know, obviously, but it would not surprise me if there are multiple players in the Hall of Fame right now who at least tried steroids.

I thought that was you!

He answered a couple of mine, too.

If Jane Forbes Clark called you Thursday morning and said, "I would like to ask you to head a committee with the power to reform the Hall of Fame voting process," what would you like that process to look like when you finished?

I can think of 10 people I'd like to get together to work it through. I think inclusion is the big thing that's missing. I think baseball fans feel frustrated that this process is just going on and they really don't have any say in it.

Comment From DJ Mc
If you could add one player not currently on the Hall of Fame ballot to the Hall, who would it be?

Hmm. Well, for personal reasons It would be Buck O'Neil. But I've been thinking more and more that Lou Whitaker is the best player to get no Hall of Fame consideration.

What is it about Jack Morris that inspires this sense of innocent wonder, this recollection to an innocent time when players were just … what? Hitting home runs for sick children in hospitals? Pitching to the score? Or is it those halcyon days of cocaine and amphetamines and excessive alcohol that we long for? It’s a shame because, as I’ve written many times, Morris was a very good pitcher and shouldn’t be at the center of a fight he wasn’t even in. But that’s just how the timing worked out.

In case anyone wants to catch it again, the MLBN Hall of Fame panel discussion has been pretty good. I caught the last 40 minutes or so, and other than one moment from one particular panelist for whom such foolishness was expected (and pretty well shot down by a couple others) I found it very informative and entertaining.

A weaker panel than last year IMO.

Based on what I've seen, I hope you are talking Russo rather than Reynolds.

I don't think Russo talked much during the part I saw, because I didn't even realize who he was until the very end.

The other guys were really good. I wish they talked more about the Deadspin vote, since they seemed to blow right past it. Then again, the way that part was edited, they may have had to remove quite a bit to make it air-able :P

Russo was terrible IMO. Reynolds had poor moments, but I don't think he was nearly as bad as expected. It would have been nice if Kenny and/or Poz were on the panel.

And … of course I have a couple of final thoughts about Jack Morris. I don’t believe Morris will be elected. I actually think he will lost a little support in his final year, which almost never happens. Morris’ voting pattern has continuously baffled me, which is part of the reason I’ve written so much about him, but I think I’ve figured something out.
