I think you're gonna have a hard time arguing against anyone who was part of all 3 playoff teams with regular playing time just in terms of their value to the organization

Agreed.   I imagine Jones will be the next member of those teams going in next year.   And just to tick people off Matt Weiters.

I think Jones, Wieters, Britton, O'Day, Tillman and Markakis should be pretty solid locks and eventually Manny but he's not retiring soon

And I do think CD eventually gets inducted because 50-homer seasons don't grow on trees but they'll need to wait another 10-15 years for the bitterness to go down before putting him in

I dont get the Matt Wieters hate here and in OH.

He never lived up to the hype, but dont sure that was actually his fault.

Some guys would give their soul to the devil to have a solid career like Matt did.

I wanted to look up and see where Hardy placed in alltime WAR for the Orioles. Is there any way to remove the dumb Browns players they include in franchise rankings? Nothing is worse than when I do a Sporcle quiz on All Time Orioles and half the list is dumb Browns players.

All these guys are locks to be in one day. Hell, guys like Jim Johnson, Wei Yin Chen, Brach and Steve Pearce have real chances with the standard thats been set.

I agree with all of this.

I wonder if CD is going to have to wait for new ownership.

Joe Posnanski is doing writeups for everyone on the HOF ballot.  Here's what he wrote about Hardy.

Let's Get Back to the Hall of Fame Ballot (substack.com)

A three-time Gold Glove winner at shortstop and a two-time All-Star. Hit a career-high 30 home runs for Baltimore in 2011.

Here’s one thing I absolutely love about J.J. Hardy’s career: He never played a single inning at any position except shortstop. I mean, that’s pretty cool. He never filled in at third or second, never played an inning in the outfield, the man was a shortstop, beginning to end, and he was a darned good one.

Hardy played 1,561 games, every one of them as a shortstop. By weird coincidence, that’s where Brandon Crawford currently stands; he has played 1,561 games, all at short. The only exclusive shortstops who played more games are Luis Aparicio (2,599) and Ozzie Smith (2,573). People sometimes mistakenly put Derek Jeter on this list because Jeter never played any other defensive position except short. But Jeter was a designated hitter more than 50 times in his career.

Hardy came from an athletic family. His father, Mark, was a professional tennis player who once made it to No. 323 in the world in doubles. His mother, Susie, was a superb amateur golfer, among the best in the country in the mid-to-late 1970s. It was Susie who every day used to hit ground balls to the young J.J. when he was growing up in Arizona.

J.J. was an unusual ballplayer — he was a great defensive shortstop and he hit with power. That was his whole game. Those attributes don’t usually go together. He couldn’t really run, he hit for low averages, he didn’t walk, but he’d be a defensive marvel and he’d bang 25-30 home runs.

And by defensive marvel, I do not mean he made a lot of spectacular plays. He didn’t. “His flair is consistency,” his manager Buck Showalter said. What made Hardy such a wonder at short was how he made easy plays look easy and he also made difficult plays look easy. He was, pre-Javy Baez, perhaps the best tagger in baseball history. It doesn’t make him a Hall of Famer, but you’d want him on your team.

If they put players in the HOF for being a total professional and a class act, JJ would be a first ballot guy.

That's insane that JJ was never DH while in Baltimore.

Would be interested to see if he wants to get into coaching.  Buck always talked about the positive influence he had on Manny and Schoop, even though you'd almost never see him doing anything that looked like demonstrative leadership during games.

Big fan of Hardy.  I think tracking his time with the Orioles, what happened and the various consequences is a fascinating exploration of [non-linear consequences] (looking for the right phrase there).

I think JJ would make a very good manager.  The issue with a lot of players today, is they made a large sum of money playing and do they really want all the hassles and pressures  of managing for what the job is paying today.

I also am not sure JJ would be a fit for a team like the Orioles who want a manager who manages by the numbers.
