I guess my question is was there reg communication between him and the FO or ownership before he declined the trade? I mean maybe.

I’m pretty sure AJ had said in interviews past that he was on speaking terms with PA about baseball things the few years when he was clearly the teams leader and voice. Didn’t need to use the chain of command to talk to him, so to speak. Seemed like they had a good relationship.

It seems like I recently saw a tweet from some random guy who last played for the Ravens in 2014, and the team had just sent him a gift bag to celebrate the birth of his first child.  Contrast that with how the O's are treating Jones, who was probably the most popular Oriole of the past 20 years.  Good franchise vs. lousy one.

The crazy thing is that at the time of the proposed trade, the O's would have told Jones that trading him was nothing personal, just a business decision.  And then when Jones makes a business decision of his own to invoke his 10-5 rights, the O's get all butthurt and snub him for life.  Wtf?

I used to be optimistic that the boys might do things better than the dad. they are, at some things.

I don’t remember if there were any rumors, but it’s not like they would have gotten a ton in return for 2 months of a basically replacement level at the time guy. Probably a bunch of international bonus slots they’d never use.

Maybe there’s a reasonable explanation, but it just seems like pettiness.

I see no reason not to believe AJ here. There's no benefit of the doubt that the Orioles deserve here.

Im sure he was, but as soon as he invoked his 10-5 rights, that went out the door and Peter can be a grumpy old man that holds grudges.

Have they started confirming other players for the 30 yr anniversary? I agree the Os dont get the benefit of the doubt in a lot of cases but my question is how have the Os specifically disrespected AJ.

There are two Adam Jones threads, and this was discussed in the other one.  The O's already invited Andino.

I can definitely see the family being annoyed that Jones refused to leave, mainly because they probably would have taken less so that he'd take 1/3 of his $17.33M salary with him. He basically "cost" them almost $6M for nothing.

 

But if they were fine bringing Mussina back the other year I can't imagine they'd actually be snubbing Jones. I've never blamed Mussina, but declining your offer for the Yankees vs. actually wanting to stay in Baltimore, that's no contest.

 

Generally it's reasonable to assume incompetence over malice, and that fits the organization as well. Like they were just doing it alphabetically or something stupid and did Andino first not thinking anyone would talk to each other. Or they sent a letter to the Orix Buffaloes that was never forwarded (yes, it was definitely done by mail).
