Ha!
That type of speed would be amazing. Think of how it would reduce/alleviate many traffic issues (also helping the environment). How it would allow Baltimore Metropolitan workers more easy access to comparable (and higher paid) Washington Metro jobs.
Not to mention that the construction of the project would bring about numerous jobs... and that with further integration between the two metro areas, you would have more DC spending in the Baltimore metro.
For example... the guy in Northern VA that doesn't want to deal with traffic and hike up to Arbutus to take advantage of the great wholesale prices at Diamond Wholesalers. Maybe now he thinks, well... I can hop on the old MagLev... and be right there. Today's the day I'm going to give Rob my money. Could open up essentially new areas for you to market to.
All a pipe dream though. So many hurdles to get past at the local, State, and National level.
I wish this type of internal investment had the support of everyone, but there will always be people that object, and people that are apathetic.

And for good reason. Look at what happened in Hunt Valley when they put the light rail up there...crime jumped in a huge way.
I think if I was someone that had to use public transportation, I would be more in favor of this but since I don't, I have no desire to spend my tax money on this...its already pissed away by how horrible this state is to begin with.

If this would help the area in many ways, I would be in favor of it even if it sucks for me.

I think the part about businesses locating in Baltimore since it would be more convenient to DC has merit and would be one benefit. And I'm sure it would be much more appealing than MARC for people who work in DC and live in Baltimore. But I don't see it happening. And the idea of tunneling for most of the route (which skyrockets the cost) doesn't make good sense.
I'll go waaaaaay out on a limb here and say that we'll actually see a new arena in Baltimore before we see something like this.

And even if there is enough momentum for something like this, by the time it actually was built and operating I bet there would already be something else that's even better and cheaper (Elon Musk's idea?), and people would regret the time and money that was wasted.

Japan is hoping that development of the Washington-Baltimore segment would entice investors to finance the rest of the line between Baltimore and New York, Rogers said.

I still would love to see it, but I have to agree with the guy who said that it would be pretty ridiculous to spend $10 billion on a Baltimore-to-DC line.

Probably $500 round trip. It'll be geared toward businesses so they'll absorb the high fares to pay the darn thing off.I wonder how much a ticket from BMore to NYC would cost. What is that, an hour trip?

Back in the early days of the automobile, they thought going 60 mph would kill you... no kidding, they really did... I forget why, but it wasn't just some random scare... it was based on some reasonable-to-them theory...
People used to think the sound barrier was impassible, too, because as you approach it you start getting more and more pressure from the leading edge shock wave which made it harder to accelerate and actually reach Mach. The plot basically looked like an asymptote that died at the speed of sound until they were able to build better motors and more aerodynamic planes that could power through it.
That's also why transonic flight isn't really a popular thing. You either need to be going subsonic to not have to deal with the shock or supersonic to be ahead of it. Flying right around the shock wave can be really bumpy.
* Been awhile since I took Aero and learned all this, so maybe I'm misrembering some of the details.
