Honduras defeated the United States, 2-1. Mexico and Jamaica tied 0-0.
I watched the end of the latter game. The fans at Estadio Azteca were NOT happy.

Love that the WC is in Brazil, time zone difference will be only an hour or two making it easy to catch all of the games.

The pairings have been announced for the 5 home and home games in Europe to be played next month. How great would it be to see Iceland make it to the WC?

The cost to Mexico for missing out on the World Cup: $650 million or more.
They play New Zealand for that last spot on the 13th at Azteca and a week later in Wellington (starting at 1 a.m. Eastern).

Not too into soccer but I did see that Rovell thing on ESPN on how there is a lot to lose financially if Mexico doesn't make the WC, both here and on the other side of the border.

No biggy, they'll just have to force the drug cartels to produce more goods to make up for the deficit.

Portugal, France, Croatia and Greece qualify at the expense of Sweden, Ukraine, Iceland and Romania, respectively.
Mexico also officially qualifies by winning in New Zealand.

As much as I've advanced on soccer in recent years, one thing that still drives me crazy is how soccer fans have to use the plural to refer to a team.
For instance, if we were talking about the Ravens, we would say "Baltimore is really playing well" or "Baltimore needs to win this game." But if you were talking soccer you would say "France are really struggling" or "France don't want to get a draw in this match". I don't know why but it drives me crazy.

I understand demographics and all and I know I rail against ESPN a good deal, but on SC last night they seemed borderline-giddy that Mexico, finally, qualified.

To be the best, you gotta beat the best.
In the mean time, Qatar's new WC stadium looks like a giant, uh, what now?
