Always been a Johnny Holliday fan -- hope he can continue broadcasting for a long time.

Man, this thread scared me. I was dreading reading some kind of health issue after the Tom Clancy news today out of nowhere.

Anyway, I love me some Holliday. To me, he's made MD Basketball on the radio on the same plane as Orioles baseball on the radio... which given the difference in the two sports, is hard to do.

Oh sorry for the scare, I tried to see if there was a past thread on him, couldn't find one.

He's probably my favorite local broadcaster since Jon Miller stopped before I was a teen. He's been doing Maryland sports since before I was born.

I met him once 3-4 years ago, he's such a nice guy -- basically exactly what I'd think from seeing him on TV/radio. I talked to him about Maryland basketball and told him of course how I have been listening to him all my life and hope he continues for a long time.

I think he has an argument for best local sportscaster in the Baltimore/Washington area. In a regional market that includes Joe Angel, that's a pretty big accomplishment.

I got to interview him a decade ago for a class when I was still at College Park. Even though I was poorly prepared and essentially doing the worst Chris Farley Show impression I could without actually trying, he was great.

Since my radio was always on WBAL growing up, he is as much the voice of my youth as Miller.

One of the coolest things that has happened to me with BSL, is getting a private note of encouragement from Mr. Holliday. What a classy, accomplished guy.  Voice of gold that has made many many days more enjoyable with his call.

I don't know that he's spent time lurking on the board, but some of the blogs have occasionally crossed his radar.
