I'll only do playoff teams. Bold means division winner, underline means other top 3 in division, italics mean wild card.

Eastern Conference

Bruins

Penguins

Montreal

Detroit

Islanders

Carolina

Senators

Capitals

Western Conference

Blackhawks

Ducks

Kings

Sharks

St Louis

Minnesota

Canucks

Phoenix

Can anyone give a refresher as to how the playoffs/scheduling work?

Is it like the NBA now where each team from the West plays each team on the road in the East once?  I seem to recall even before the lockout that there were years where certain west teams never came to DC.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

Don't really disagree, but there are so many unknowns this year after amnesties and the DET/WPG move. I think FLA could make some noise too...they are scrappy and Thomas could get them in the playoff race.

It is now. It used to be like that, but when they realigned last it made uneven scheduling, and now this year they swapped Winnipeg to the West, and DET to the east, went down to 4 divisions total (instead of 6) and part of the balanced schedule is that there is 1 home and 1 away against every other conf team.

Tim Thomas had a very good team in Boston. Doesn't have that in Florida. I do agree that they are very scrappy though.

Don't think they'll be top 5 if they can squeak in, but I think they could make a little noise cause they are unpredictable.

Do agree ANA should be good, but losing Ryan and counting on Selanne so much will hurt them. Goaltending still their key cause Bruce's system hangs goalies out to dry.

Forgot about BOS, they should also be really good. Top line could be really physical and annoying for other teams.

If things fall into place for them and they find some consistency on offense and defense, I could see the Panthers sneaking in. That's brutal that the Panthers and Lightning in the same division as Canadian teams though.

We all know Boudreau is the champion of the regular season, so I think his system will work for the regular season and then choke in the post-season.

Boston's entire team is physical and annoying, but yeah, that first line is especially physical and annoying. They're my early Stanley Cup favorite.

Yep I saw a bunch of nhl people predicting ana to miss the playoffs because of defense concerns. I thjnk they'll get in but hiller has to be spectacular.

Nobody in their division save the Kings stands out to me. I think either the Kings or Ducks win that division. Sharks might, but they're a longshot.
