That's what I was just about to say - He doesn't need to be better than Hunter, except for a couple of starts. This spot is just being kept warm until Britton is ready anyway.

Yeah but is he any better than Hunter?

Dana is LHP, so at least there is that.

Hey, they knew something about Hammels we didn't know. Maybe they hit twice?

Good call. If they lightning strikes again with Eveland, I'm going to be extremely impressed.

Man, I wish we had Hammels to go along with Hammel - then we'd really be in business. That said, they seem to have hit on Hammel! ;)

God, I hate to be that guy - but I keep seeing Hammels being thrown around and just needed to say something. Sorry AS!

Eveland goes 6 innings, allows 5 hits, 3 er, 6 bb's, with 2 k's in his O's debut.

My bad, was running out the door when I posted that and was working on a post about Harper/Hamels right before that. I'm an idiot :)

Not saying much. Eveland was bad last night. You can spin the fact that it was technically a QS all you want but continued efforts like last night's will not cut it going forward, even as "depth".

I'm just not sure what our better options are? You need a minimum of 8 pitchers, usually 10 as depth, when factoring the usual injuries and ineffectiveness.

Nice outing for Eveland out of the pen last night. His 3 innings were critical. Got Hosmer twice.

3 nice innings from Eveland tonight. If it gets to the point where it is needed, I'd rather see Eveland get starts vs. Moyer.

I like Eveland in his current role. Why not Tillman or Bergy?

Didn't say I would want Eveland starting over either one.

I think Eveland has to be seriously considered for one of the two rotation spots assumed to be available(Arrieta and Hunter's). Gut tells me he probably was going to get the start tomorrow before he was needed to pitch today. With Gonzalez out there you already have a long man, you don;t really need a 2nd one. I mean we do but it is because of how bad the SP has been. I'm going to predict Eveland gets a start next time through along with 1 of Britton, Tillman, Bergy, Johnson.

We knew two long-men when we our starters can make it through half the game two nights in a row. But in all seriousness, when the starters can't go deep as 6-7 innings seems to be the ceiling most nights, you need a 'pen who can log many innings.

Eveland allowed the 3 run homer to Peralta in the 5th, making it a 7-1 game.
