Wilt Chamberlain is an all time NBA great. Hes not a transcendent athlete. How many kids today would know he he was??
How many kids in 50 years will know who LeBron is??
Kids still know who Babe Ruth is. Know who Ali is. Will still know about Jordan in 30 years.

Just stop. You're embarrassing yourself at this point with your bias.

Prove that point wrong. He'll be Wilt in 50 years.

You just asked somebody to prove what somebody's legacy will be in 50 years.  You know that's insane, right?

LeBron James will win a World Series MVP in the next 20 years.  Prove that point wrong or I'm right.

Fine, why cant people accept that he could be Wilt in 50 years. It's like you guys are purposely being assholes. IMO, Wilt is one of the 5 most talented players of all time. In his day, he was a superstar.  Again, not in that uber transcendent category like some of the athletes I named.

Why can't you accept that he could be beyond Wilt in 50 years? "Could" is the operative word, because, since it isn't 50 years in the future yet, we don't know how he'll be viewed.

And, by the way, I think you're WAY underestimating the way Wilt Chamberlain is viewed by modern generations.

He's on a Wilt like pace. And of course sports fans know Wilt. The average person off the street under 30yrs old doesnt.

"The average person off the street under 30yrs old" probably doesn't know any basketball player who played before Kobe. So using them as any kind of barometer in a sports discussion doesn't work.

Also, I'm guessing they would know Chamberlain AT LEAST for the whole "20,000 women" thing.

Yeah, Wilt is pretty damn legendary! For more than one reason, but still arguably on the Mount Rushmore of the NBA. Ending up like Wilt is still living up to the hype. I guess Nickle thinks that the majority of people were saying James was going to be as good as Jordan before he entered the league or in his rookie year. I don't think that many people, especially respected people, were seriously saying that. Also, there's been plenty of "next Jordan's" but I'm not sure why anyone would take that so seriously to the point where if the guy doesn't actually reach MJ level, then he's one of the most overrated or over-hyped (two very different things btw) players ever. Is Kobe on that list? Heck, how about Stacy Augmon?

BS. Of course they know Jordan. Of course they know Babe Ruth. Ali. Pele.

He's not going down in that legendary category, but that is and has been the hype.

Then I'm not sure you're using legendary correctly at least as the overwhelming majority of people would define it. And by "not sure", I mean "absolutely sure".

Can I borrow your crystal ball when you're done?

You do realize he's only 30 and you're speculating that he does nothing the next 3-4 years.

LeBron will be known, he's everywhere. He's one of the most recognized athletes in the world. That doesn't just go away.

And if a kid asks me who to watch and model their game after, I'm telling him LeBron. Dude epitomizes everything you want in a basketball player.

*edit- yes, that list includes Jordan and Kobe. Give me a team full of high IQ, team first basketball players over a team of me first, selfish Kobe wanna-be's.

You know how certain political commentators cannot be taken seriously at all anymore because of absurd biases one way or the other...As in, doesn't matter what side they're on, they'll either defend or criticize no matter what happens, thus losing all credibility.

This has become that.
