Baltimore Sports and Life: “If the O’s can sign 6th rounder Nick Delmonico, would he be one of the O’s Top 10 prospects?”
Mayo: “Not right out of the gate. I’d like to see how he handled professional pitching. Now, if he’s catching, then he becomes a little more intriguing and after a good debut, he could move up, but it’s too early to put him in a top 10, I think.”

Now 5 for 27 for the year, with 5 bb's, and 7 k's.

4/16: 0 for 4, 0 for 21 in the last 5 games.
The good thing, at least from my viewpoint, is that he's not striking out at too excessive of a rate. He's had 9 K's in 38 AB's, with 6 walks. That's not bad. I'm wondering if he's hitting into bad luck, or just not making solid contact?

Good points Clap. I'm sure he will get going soon. Gets a couple hits to fall in, and he will probably settle in.

David Rawnsley: “The disconnect among scouts on Delmonico’s future position worried me, as catching is the most difficult position on the baseball field and it’s one of those things that if you wonder if he can catch or not, he most likely can’t. So the bat is going to have to play big.”
Matt Garrioch: “I had both slotted as supplemental round types of talent. Delmonico with higher upside and Esposito a solid future major leaguer that won’t be a star but could help an MLB team. I liked both picks.”

I was a little disturbed by this, I don't know ONE person that though Delmonico would stick at C, so I don't know why so many people keep bringing it up. My guess is that it's people that didn't follow him closely and just going by early notes.

Have we seen any reports of Delmonico's defense at 3rd so far for Delmarva? Is he going to move-up as a 1st/DH?
Currently Delmonico is 11 for 55, 3 doubles, 1 hr, 9 rbi, 7 bb's, with 13 k's.

Pretty sure he's been playing 1B exclusively with Esposito at 3B. He's made 1 error in 14 games, but without seeing him live I can't tell you much. Esposito (who usually has a good glove) has 4 errors and Givens has 5 at 2B.
I've heard he was drafted as, and will be a 1B from the beginning. I'm just confused why so many people say, oh well if he's not catching, when most teams said that before the draft. I think he'll develop and do fairly well down the road. I believe in the bat, but he's a typical 18 year old in low A and he's going to take a couple years. Full years at each stop would be my suggestion.

That makes sense. I thought I had heard they were going to be giving Delmonico an occasional start at 3rd, but I might have imagined that. Will be interesting to see how he ends the year at Delmarva.

Wouldn't shock me at all. If he can play 3B he's got much more value. I'd love to see how he compares to Clemson's Richie Shaffer when he came out of HS, because that kid can RAKE and has a great eye, if Nicky is comparable that's a great sign, but I haven't seen Nick live to know, and I've only seen Shaffer the one time. I was hoping to go see him again Sunday, but they moved the game to a doubleheader today because of rain tomorrow.

Love the .371 OBP, especially for a 19 year old.
