What did Jones get, 85 million for 6 years? Seems like he wouldn't cost anymore than that would he?
I think the end result gets you close to that number, but that's mostly coincidental as it's not really a relevant comp, IMO. Jones was nearly a decade ago so AAVs are very different now than then in general, so that's in Mancini's favor. Most everything else was in Jones' favor, as he played a premium defensive position very well and was perceived to be taking a step forward offensively to be a real impact bat rather than just good for a CF. Trey has a better bat overall but not massively better than Jones at the time, certainly not enough to make up the big value of the defensive value.
Marcell Ozuna seems like a good comp. He just got 4/$65M for all FA years. Michael Bradley got 2/$32M. Nick Castellanos got 4/$64M an offseason prior. $16M a year seems reasonable as a FA value. Trey would still be buying out an arb year, so add that in and maybe you're looking at 5/$70M plus or minus depending on the exact FA valuation for Trey.
