Well, he got off to a fast start but now he's slumping a bit. Still drawing some walks though. I think he and Schoop will both struggle a little bit and put it together as the year goes on. Remember, Machado is still 19 and Schoop is only 20.

I thought about it, the tailgate Tuesday is a pretty good deal, but it's going to be cold, and I have a ton to do this week, so I'm thinking maybe late May.

Yeah these players are young. They will go through slumps and struggle at times but it's worth being patient with them. 19 and 20 years old are very young. No need to rush.

When looking at the box scores every night, the trend I see is that both of these players walk at a good rate.

Especially Machado. He seems to almost have too good an eye, or is simply too patient.
I think this year is the best year for them growth wise. I would like for them to stick at AA all year honestly.

I think keeping Hoes, Machado, Schoop together and have them grow as a team would be a great idea.

Schoop is 7-13 in his last 3 games. Of course, ridiculously small sample size, but he's got his average back up to .229, which may not sound like much, but I know it was under .200 about a week or so ago.

I agree - I don't remember the last time we've had an opportunity to do that with 2 or more positional prospect.

Glad to see that Schoop is getting it going a little bit, SSS be damned.

Remember that Schoop started poorly in Frederick too but then ended up hitting .270 overall with a 700ish OPS, which was pretty impressive for a 19 y/o in the Carolina League. Development isn't always include pretty numbers and sometimes failure is necessary in order to take a step forward. Jonathan is now seeing more advanced breaking stuff and more advanced pitch sequencing than he's ever seen before, so failure was going to happen. I expect Schoop to be fine in the Eastern League -- and remember, he's young for the league so don't look at his stats the same way we would with, say, LJ Hoes. Schoop is a very good hitter who barrels line drives all over the field and hits the ball HARD. If you want to be entertained, go check out a Bowie batting practice session and watch Schoop hit. Puts on a show.

BTW, Machado's 19 BB/25 K ratio in 133 PA is a fantastic sign.

5/13 Machado: 2 for 4, double, rbi

Schoop was 0 for 4 yesterday, but it has been a nice stretch for him. Another week of plus production, and he will pull his overall numbers back to respectable.

I wonder if Machado is kept at Bowie for the entire season..

Machado is batting .279 with a .374 OBP and .810 OPS. He's not really hitting home runs right now, he has just two in 147 at-bats, but he's getting extra base hits like they're worth a million bucks a pop (a team leading 13 doubles to go with 2 triples).

Gotta love the spread between BA and OBP for a 19 y/o in AA.

Yes, great splits and love the doubles and triples. Some of those will be HRs in a few years as he matures.
