ESPN: Retractable roof coming for US Open

There's some sports to me that are just outdoor sports even if you can play them inside. Tennis is one of those. I like to say in baseball, rainouts are part of the game, even though it's been nice knowing for the last two days short of an epidemic in Arizona we'd see baseball no matter what. That said, I think the reasons for taking this step are fine. The US Open keeps getting push back and if I had plans to go on Sunday and had to leave on Labor Day for whatever reason, I'd be upset.

The Men's Final usually takes place the Sunday after Labor Day weekend. It's been pushed back to Monday for 5 straight years due to weather. This is the right move. I'm sure CBS wishes it came sooner, and I'm sure ESPN (who take over rights in 2014) is very pleased, since once the roof is complete they won't have to be concerned about the final possibly bleeding into the first week of Monday Night Football.
