Whit Merrifield just surpassed George Brett for the longest hit streak in franchise history at 31 games.

The Athletic: The day I got drafted: Royals recall special memories of hearing their name called

Apparently Whit Merrifield had a verbal deal to sign with the Orioles until the Royals drafted him.

Said it before the year to my friends - Royals are making the playoffs this year.

Duffy has allowed 1 ER in 23 IP so far, a solo HR. Good for a 0.39 ERA.

Crazy.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

He's another guy with a ERA+ over 1000 (like deGrom). #crazy.

He was pretty good early but has been just above average over the last 4+ years.  Signed a fairly big deal but hasn't really delivered on it...until now.

Ten seems like a lot.

Ten players on the Kansas City Royals' 26-man roster will not make the trip to Toronto this week because they are unvaccinated, sources tell ESPN. That includes the team’s lone All-Star and a top trade target, outfielder Andrew Benintendi. Multiple regulars among those missing.

The 10 Kansas City Royals who are not vaccinated and will miss the trip to Toronto are: OF Andrew Benintendi, IF/OF Whit Merrifield, C M.J. Melendez, DH Hunter Dozier, SP Brad Keller, SP Brady Singer, CF Michael A. Taylor, OF Kyle Isbel, RP Dylan Coleman and C Cam Gallagher.

This is an incredible break for Toronto.  I get that it is an individual choice, but These guys are cashing big checks.

Michael A Taylor also has a sore shoulder after pitching in a blowout and hitting 93 mph on the radar gun. He’s one of their trade chips. Very smart…

So of course KC, with 10 players out, beat the Blue Jays last night.  Baseball.

The Blue Jays may kick themselves if they do not take advantage of this series.

Royals fire President Dayton Moore and name current GM JJ Picollo to take over.

This is the second team to fire their club President and just promote the GM to that role this year.  That seems so weird to me.  A guy retiring or moving on and then promoting from within makes a lot of sense.  But firing the lead and promoting the underling seems like a rarer beast.

Was only a year ago that Moore got the bump up to GM and Picollo was named GM.  So maybe this is just buyer's remorse?

Fun fact. Gunnar Henderson (0.8) currently has more bWAR than Witt Jr (0.7).

  • LocationI'm here from downtown, I'm here from Mitch and Murray.

Posted 06 September 2023 - 09:41 AM

I did a dog transport up to KC, so I took in a Royals game. We sat in the 3rd row along the 3B side of the field, so we were among season ticket fans. We have been to Kauffman before, and I still think it's a truly unique ballpark. I started talking to a long time fan (season ticket holder) and shared my opinion of the ballpark. He said, "Well, enjoy it while you're here, they're tearing it down". He said "They" but didn't say who, are trying to have the stadium condemned to get out of the lease". He said their stated motivation is to get into a new downtown stadium sooner. But his fear is, if they get out of the lease, they'll move to...

wait for it...

Nashville

Good news! I saw a dog today.
