The Pistons are officially back in Detroit, and people are excited!

That relocation never quite made sense to me. By spending all those years way out in the suburbs the Pistons cultivated their fanbase out there too. I get wanting to be in on the whole revival of downtown Detroit, but when you move farther away from your fans like that you can expect to lose some.

It's kind of like what happened to the Islanders when they went to Barclays. Yeah, you got nicer digs (even though the sight lines aren't ideal for hockey) but a lot of your fans are displeased enough with the notion of having to go from Nassau or Suffolk Counties to Brooklyn and back that they just don't come....and in the case of both the Islanders and Pistons I'm sure it isn't helping that neither have been very good for some time.

Blake Griffin traded to Detroit for Tobias Harris,  Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic, and a first- and second-round draft pick.

LAC are also sending Brice Johnson and Willie Reed to Detroit.

Not sure what the point of this is for Detroit.

Griffin is now a Piston.

I am guessing he isn’t happy.

So much for a boring trade deadline season. Gotta think the Clips will be shipping DJ off next.

Wonder what this means for Doc too. He finagled his way out of Boston so he didn't have to be part of a rebuild. Welp, here we are.

Clippers will look to deal Williams and Jordan too.

Apparently, they feel LeBron will be interested in coming there and are gearing up towards that.

They want to dump as much salary as possible.

My guess is they will try to get him there by clearing the cap room for him to play with his friends, although I don’t know if CP3 will go back there.

Not sure what the Pistons' end game is here.  Unless they  just really wanted some sort of marketable star.

They figure that LBJ is leaving and maybe they can be a real contender in the East next year.

I mean, who do you have outside of Boston?  Maybe Milwaukee but they need Giannis to stay long term.  Miami is always a sleeping giant.  Who else are you really worried about?

That may be part of it.

I think they're trying to make the playoffs, but I'm not sure that this will help much, if at all this year. Otherwise, this basically sets them up to be mediocre or a little better in the next couple years and potentially worse if Blake's contract becomes an albatross in the last couple years of that huge contract.

If he doesn't opt-out of his contract for the '21-'22 season, Detroit will be paying $39M for a player with a lengthy injury rap sheet who will turn 33. Ouch.

The Pistons blew a 4th Qtr lead against Brooklyn to lose their 27th straight game. That sets the all-time record for most consecutive losses in a single season. One more and they will tie the record for most consecutive losses over two seasons of 28 set by The Process 76ers during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.

While they were never likely to be good, I can't imagine the Pistons intended to be this bad. The way the 2024 draft class is shaping up, this is not the year to suffer through historic losing for a shot at a better pick, as it looks like slim pickings at the top of the draft.

As for how they got here, Detroit has seemingly been the victim of a combo of bad luck (they've dropped in the lottery several years, and when they were picking high there were no generational talents available) and some self-inflicted wounds (even with lower picks they have made some questionable decisions).

They won, the Pistons have won the championship! ..... I'm kidding of course.  But truthfully, I'm very happy for them.  It's not easy to go through what they went through and they were so close the last few games.  You could see the effort they were giving, they weren't mailing it in.  I'm glad to see it finally paid off.
