Remember that famous picture of Len seated on his stool, smoking a cigarette and drinking a soda during halftime of Super Bowl I? It was rather commonplace back then, but smoking during a Super Bowl isn't something we'll likely see again.

Former heavyweight boxer Ernie Shavers, 79. Cause of death not revealed at this time.
A legendary puncher, Shavers fought both Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes for the heavyweight title. He lost a 15-round decision to Ali in 1977, and despite flooring Holmes in the seventh round in their September 28, 1979 title bout, Shavers was stopped by Holmes in the 11th.

Longtime CNN anchor/reporter Bernard Shaw, 82.
Best remembered by me at-least for the reporting at the onset of Desert Storm.

Why are Americans obsessed with British monarchy? Genuine question, I don’t have an opinion or angle here other than I’ve never understood it.

Queen Elizabeth
I am not a fan of the whole Royal family crap, but the things this woman saw in her lifetime, were amazing.. RIP.
That said. the Brits could save a lot of money doing away with the Royal structure.

Agreed. Don't get the Brits interest either since its pretty much all symbolic.
That said she had an incredible life and often provided leadership to not just her people but the world at large. Particularly helpful with the Special Relationship.

It's all fairy tale stuff. Stories little girls play out with their dolls and what Disney was built on. That's the only thing I can think of.

Yep, never forget him reporting from the roof of a Baghdad hotel as missiles launched and fell all around him.

If you wanna really get confused add some Brits to your family. My brother-in-law is British Army. He's utterly normal in every possible way except he's absolutely glued to every piece of news about the royal family. Has a photo of the Queen in his house. Not with the Queen, just a portrait. I'll probably have to send him a condolence card after today.
Its decidedly less dumb than the Kardashians, there is at least some purpose in terms of national pride and a symbol of making sacrifices for the nation. But the paparazzi aspect of it, much like the state of celebrity here, is utterly baffling to me.
