Luis Tiant, 83.

I loved watching that guy pitch when I was a kid.

The two opposing pitchers I always enjoyed watching were Tiant and Wilbur Wood (began when he started both ends of a DH).  Tiant was the opposing pitcher in the first MLB game I ever attended.  Something happened that night that will probably never happen again.  Both starting pitchers (Tiant vs Palmer) pitched complete games - 10 inning CGs.  Unfortunately, the Sox won on a Yaz homer in the top of the 10th.

Speaking of athletes I enjoyed watching, former Washington CB Pat Fischer died today - he was 84.  He was 5’9, and had some classic battles with 6’8 Harold Carmichael.

Fernando Valenzuela, 63.

He won the NL CYA and ROY awards in 1981, the first player to ever do so in the same season. That season he also helped lead the Dodgers to a championship, including a WS win over the Yankees….making it a sad irony he passes just 3 days before those two teams meet in the WS for the first time since then. He is the only Dodger to have his number retired without being in the Hall of Fame. He also pitched for the O’s in 1993.

RIP to horror icon Tony Todd, who is most famous for his role in the 1992 movie Candyman. But he appeared in dozens of other popular movies and TV shows.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

He was also big in the Star Trek universe for his portrayal of the Klingon, 'Kurn' in both DS9 and TNG (along with video game appearances), as well as playing an alpha Hirogen in ST Voyager.

Jim Abrahams passed away. He was one of the best slapstick writers of all time.

A spy approaches an informant in East Germany:

Spy: Do you know any good white basketball players?

Informant: There are no good white basketball players.

(security clearance passed, information is thereby exchanged)

RIP to one of the greats.
