One Terps commit is lighting things up from behind the arc, and we update several others prospects. Things have been busy on the women's side. Check it out!

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

It’s been a busy month for women’s head basketball coach Brenda Frese as she has had a slew of commitments roll in. Let’s take a look:

-  Ava Ellison is the daughter of former NBA player Pervis Ellison and Ava’s mom Timi was an All-ACC sprinter at Maryland. The 6-foot-3 rising senior averaged 10.9 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game for national power Life Center Academy out of Burlington, New Jersey.

“I obviously started playing late, and I admit I have a long way to go,” Aja said to ESPNW.com. “But I’m a quick learner, and I think Maryland understands my situation. The coaches are willing to work with me, and they are good at developing players that did not come in that highly rated.”

She is the 21st ranked wing in the 2014 class and the has a rating of 90 from ESPN.com. She chose Maryland over Stanford, Notre Dame, and Louisville.

- South Forsyth HS sophomore guard Sarah Myers and West Forsyth sophomore center Jenna Staiti popped for Frese shortly after the two too a trip to the Comcast Center. The two play AAU ball together for the Atlanta Cagers.

Myers is a 5-foot-11 guard who averaged 18.9 points per game as a freshman. She led her team to the state playoffs for the first time since 2002.

“They’ve got a great coaching staff and I was able to visit their campus this summer and got to spend three days there,” Myers told the Forsyth News. “It was a beautiful campus and their academics are great and had the two majors that I am thinking about choosing.”

“Sarah, she’s an extremely hard worker and I think her work ethic will help her reach [her goals],” Forsyth head caoch Keith Gravitt said to the Forsyth News. “She’ll continue to improve and make Maryaldn even more happy about their decision to offer her a scholarship.”

-Staiti is a 6-foot-5 center who only began playing AAU basketball after her eighth grade year. Prior to that she swam and was a nationally ranked swimmer. She averaged 22.5 points per game for West Forsyth.

“I went there and everything was perfect,” she said. “The caoches, the staff, the players, everyting was amazing and I didnt think it could get any better than that,” Staiti told FCN.com.

“I guess in terms of her skill level, she’s just a player taht a lot of other teams do not have,” West Forsyth head coach David May told FCN. “Her size and her skill level and her potential and ability gives us an advantage going [agains] other teams because of her size and what she can do scoring the basketball.”

MEN's BASKETBALL

  • According to Daniel Martin from Comcast Sports Net, 2014 power forward Obi Enechoinyia (Saint James, Maryland) is still being recruiting by Maryland, but interest has dropped off a bit.

  • Martin also said that Abdul Malik Abu, a 2014 power forward from New Hampshire told him the Terps were trying to jump back in his recruiting during the live period, but it appears the Terps have an uphill battle.

  • Maryland commit Dion Wiley (Potomac HS, MD) is competing in the Nike Global Challenge. Through two games he is averaging 9.5 points. He is playing for USA East. Wiley recently put on a shooting display last weekend at the Nike Peach Jam. In five games he shot 18-for-35 from three-point range.

Interesting note from CSN

Surprised that they are using possibly their last scholarship for a wing.  Makes you wonder who they envision leaving next year.
