Alvarez is not better than the mediocre guys we have here, IMO.
Sure, throw him out there and see what happens, but I imagine all of the guys we have would put up better numbers at AAA than Alvarez has. In fact, Reimold, Urrutia, Walker, Navarro, Clevenger, and Parmalee all had as good or better numbers than Alvarez. And it's not like Alvarez is doing it at some young age where you can project him to get better in the future. He's 26.
If he can give us what Reimold does but with good enough defense where we can also get rid of Lough, that'd be helpful. I think best case for Alvarez is a 4th OF, but I'm not confident he'll be good enough to hold down a major league job.

After the deadline, if they sell, putting guys like Alvarez and Walker into the everyday lineup should happen. See what you have.

Yes, I am fine with that. I just don't think Alvarez has much of a chance as ending up an everyday player. Certainly shouldn't be much worse than what we've been running out there in LF and RF.

I missed his earlier PAs, but his 3rd AB was ugly.
I'll give him the pass for his first game, especially against a guy like Hamels....
....but I don't see much to be excited about in his offensive profile.
I kind of talk the guy down, but I think you can live with him (the defense) if you were doing everything else you needed to do in the lineup.
I feel the same way about Hardy, Joseph and Schoop (to a point).....but you just can't have a lineup full of guys that can't drive the offense.

He looked completely over matched at the plate all night. And what a violent, wild swing. But that arm was something else. Great, great play to get the OF assist at home.

Convert him to a pitcher.

That was a terrible route to the ball on Deshields triple. A good RFer catches that ball.
