No chance the Kings lose the finals. I'd be surprised if the Rangers get more than one win.

Kenny Albert just noted that this is the first LA-NY Championship Series since the Yankees/Dodgers in 81, hard to believe. Maybe that doesn't account for some minor sport.

That's 3-of-3 for LA in Game 7s, all on the road, in the playoffs so far....including the first round when they were down 0-3. I'm guessing a Game Seven won't be necessary for them to win in the Finals.

Only thing that gives the Rags any chance at all is Henrik finding a way to stand on his head for a couple weeks. But I just don't see that happening.

I guess the NJ Nets (who played the Lakers in the 2002 Finals) don't count.

The Devils played the Kings in 2012, so I guess not.

The Devils also played the Kings but yes this is the first true NY/LA Finals since Dodgers/Yankees.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

I'm sure if the Giants or Jets had played the Raiders or Rams (while they were in LA), it would've been considered an LA-NY showdown. Between the Devils (and formerly the Nets) residing in New Jersey, having NJ in their name, and the fanbases being most NJ, I think it's fair to say this is the first NY-NJ matchup in 30+ years.

I can't believe LA made that comeback happen.

Obviously the Kings are the favorites, hard to believe the Sharks had them on the ropes at 3-0 but having said that if Lundquist gets rolling this might not be a slam dunk.

If You Want to See the New York Rangers Play for the Stanley Cup, Go to L.A.

In fact, prices are so high for games in New York that people have joked that it's probably cheaper for Ranger fans to fly to Los Angeles, check into a hotel, and buy tickets to a game at the Staples Center than it is to watch Games 3 or 4 at Madison Square Garden.

Except, wait: that's not a joke. Bloomberg did some math, and the results are not encouraging:

The average price paid for a resale ticket to Game 3 in New York is $1,626, more than twice the $679 average for a ticket to Game 1 at the Staples Center. Round-trip flights to Los Angeles from Newark, New Jersey, on Travelocity.com, leaving the morning of Game 1 and returning the next day, begin at $490. The website offers a night at the airport Crowne Plaza for $69, meaning the total price for a ticket, flight and hotel would be $1,238. That’s $388 cheaper than the average price paid for an MSG ticket, which could be used for cab fares and food.

New York TimesIn Stanley Cup Finals, Big Markets Don’t Mean Big Viewership

Now, as teams from the nation’s two largest markets meet, some wonder if this is the formula for record viewership.

It is not. Or more correctly, we do not know for certain. The hypothesis has not been tested often enough with the right teams in the markets.

“A great rating is about how long the series goes,” said Sam Flood, the executive producer of NBC Sports. “We’re rooting for the opposite team to win each game.”

Translation: The network makes more money the longer a series goes, and, by the way, it’s more exciting if it’s not a sweep.

If the Blackhawks had not lost to the Kings in the Western Conference finals, a Chicago-New York series might have produced record viewership. Fans love Original Six series.

The Blackhawks and the Bruins led the league in the number of cable households watching their local games. According to Nielsen, Chicago averaged 152,000, and the Bruins had 120,000.

The Rangers, on MSG Network, ranked third, with 96,000. But the Kings were far lower, with 23,000, and the Ducks were well below them, with 13,000.

During the second and third rounds of the playoffs on NBC’s networks, the Chicago market averaged 513,000 households, Boston 424,000, the Rangers 362,000 and the Kings 157,000.

Eddie Olczyk, NBC’s analyst for the finals who is also the Blackhawks’ analyst on cable, said the team had blended the success of winning two Stanley Cups in the past four seasons with innovative marketing that was aided drastically a few years ago when the owner Rocky Wirtz reversed his father’s longtime refusal to show home games on TV.

“You could argue that the Blackhawks sit atop the sports totem pole in Chicago,” he said by telephone Tuesday. “No team has had more recent success.”

Well it was a quick start for the Rangers, but this is shaping up to be a good game after all.

Nothing beats the Stanley Cup Playoffs... Nothing beats the Stanley Cup Finals... Nothing beats the Stanley Cup Finals in Overtime (well Game 7 of the SC Finals in OT).

Seriously, this should surprise no one. This whole playoffs has been crazy. OT here in game 1, an appropriate way to kick off the Cup Finals.
