I know nobody is in the mood to give Edsall much slack these days, but he touched on a few things I wanted to hear (particularly taking some self-accountability). I also thought his response of dealing with the Baltimore / Washington media was telling.
Another interesting question and answer was the topic of discipline.

I think anyone will agree that he needs the time to have his staff, his recruits, his program in place. The one issue with Fridge is that he failed to get the horses and would anyone else expect they would win with a young team that was compiled with ponies over thoroughbreds.
I come from a laughing stock SEC program, so I know how it feels when you play second fiddle to in state recruits. Edsall is suppose to be this guy and the program should turn around when given time. The question will the administration go through another sub par season for Randy to build the program in his image?

It is unfortunate that we live in "what did you do for me yesterday" society. Edsall had not even completed his second game of the season and people were calling for his head.

That's because most of us alumni were NOT with him being hired in the first place. After letting Fridge go, most of us weren't on board, then bumbling the Mike Leach move which some of us were getting over Fridge for. Kevin Anderson is NOT approved by a good majority of alumni and boosters, and we got the impression that Edsall was HIS guy.
Edsall will probably never be accepted here because of all that, and last year didn't help. Especially with ruining the best QB we've had since Boomer.

Maryland is broke and ill bet Edsall gets atleast a third year barring a complete disaster this year and/or scandal. We saw this with Fridge after his 2-10 year. He only came back for one reason and one reason only, MONEY. He redeemed himself but a new AD wanted to hit the reset button and misjudged the program capabilities from good to great. Also, the firing was called a "strategic business decision," I don't think they sold many if any tickets based on Edsall. People were complaining about the lack of attendance under Fridge. They could've gotten the same attendance this year, if not better, and not been paying two coaches.
Well season ticket orders were up this year for the first time in years. It will be interesting to see where those levels go now - they will drop, but by how much?

If Leach was having a good year at Wazzu, you wouldn't hear the end of it here. One of those, you have no idea if he would've worked here or not. He had great success at Tech after all. Still would've preferred him over Edsall. Now I don't think he would've made much of a difference if he had this QB situation though. Just shows that you need time to build something.
As the column mentioned, WSU did see increased ticket sales, and so would UM if they had hired him IMO. But it's no secret that like Edsall, Leach has an arrogance and abrasive personality to him. Sure, we can't say for certain what he would have done at UM, but looking at his first season in Pullman I don't expect it would have been a seamless transition....nor did I when it looked like the Terps would hire him. End of the day, I still wish they had hired Leach. Just don't believe the early results would have been a whole lot different than what we've seen.
And no, I have no reason to believe that Leach would have any more success in dealing with the current QB situation either.

There's no doubt about that, the short term gains would've been greater with Leach, but in this "what have you done for me lately" society, a 2-10/3-9 season would've reversed most of that, depending on the severity of the losses. As the column mentioned, WSU did see increased ticket sales, and so would UM if they had hired him IMO.
