Mets finalizing a trade for Lindor.
Indians include Carraso with Lindor to NYM, get back Rosario and Gimenez plus mlb.com #9 and #10 prospects Josh Wolf/RHP and Isaiah Greene/OF.
1) The Indians didn't get much, so he was, as expected, pretty reasonably available.
2) People make a big deal about this for the Indians. Didi had a better OPS last year than Lindor. I like Lindor more than Didi but in terms of 2021 performance, replacing Lindor with Didi in your lineup keeps the Indians in the same competitive position as 2020. They can easily make up whatever difference there might have been with a better than last ranked OF.
3) When I talk about helping the Dodgers land the guy they want, this is the reason. Whatever anyone thinks, Lindor is in NYM and about to be paid to be the face of the franchise for well into the next decade.
4) Great deal for the Mets. They have covered a number of the things they need to do to be competitive. They could still miss the playoffs, but they are in the discussion. Could set off a number of other moves in the super competitive NL East.
5) Orioles direct: Lindor has been a future consideration in a number of recent BSL writings. We should feel comfortable taking him off the Orioles wish list for 2022.

Gimenez was their #3 prospect in '19... Wolf and Greene are 2nd round picks the last 2 years.
Rosario had a productive 2019 as a 23 year old... that's a good amount of team control coming back to the Indians.
Carrasco had a productive '20 after a limited '19. I like his addition for NY. He's 34 soon, but for '21 he should help their rotation.

Time to focus on Corey Seager!
This is certainly an interesting topic that we should maybe consider on the main board at some point.
The potential options for the Orioles could pursue with their financial flexibility next offseason is a consideration by some/many (not me for different reasons), but when you start looking at the map of teams and involvement, the Orioles are unlikely to have an advantage.
With Lindor traded to the Mets, a Mookie Betts-like extension is likely to follow. Steve Cohn didn't make the move just for the 2021 season and the MLB landscape should consider Lindor basically off the market (obviously that's not true until it's true).
For several years now the Dodgers (pundits on MLB Radio) have apparently secretly desired Lindor over Seager. With Lindor an option, they certainly might consider waiting. When this first domino falls, who would the Dodgers next prefer on the market? I'd guess without Lindor, they'll be motivated to go ahead and lock up Seager and since he's likely less than Lindor would have been, they could go ahead and move on Arenado too.
You have a team like the Blue Jays who have been super-aggressive and if Lindor and Seager both get taken out of the market...do they get aggressive for a super-available Trevor Story?
Lindor was sort of the Wild Card in the market, much like teams (and agents) waiting for the top FA to come off the board to better define the landscape. Market uncertainty makes reasonable deals more likely. It wouldn't surprise me to see a few more considered options get cleaned out of the future market.

After reading the article I have to believe his career in baseball is over. I certainly hope so.

It has to be. Hard to get another shot after behavior like this.

Jacob deGrom now has a 2.07 ERA since 2018 and the Mets are 36-41 in his starts.

That's pretty wild. Entering the year as the favorite for more hardware. Quite the run he's on personally, will see if the team can better capitalize on that this year.
