Think he starts at Frederick or Bowie?

He should begin at Frederick until he rakes for an extended period of time. I don't see any reason to rush him to Bowie. He had a sub-.700 OPS at Frederick last season, albeit he was doing a lot of good things there and had a monster post-season. I just don't get any need to rush him. Same with Schoop.

I see him at Frederick for the time being. I do expect a move in the middle of the season to Bowie.
I really can't wait to see him with the Baysox.

Keith Law said he wouldn't be surprised if Machado ends up in Baltimore this year.

I'm wondering how the club handles the whole situation. Duquette hinted that both Machado and Schoop would play SS. Does that push Machado to Bowie? If he's in Bowie I could see him called up if Hardy gets hurt (after July let's say).

I would be shocked if Machado saw Baltimore this year. There is just zero reason to rush him. None at all. And I think what Keith was trying to say was that he could envision a scenario where Machado would possibly be ready for Baltimore by September. He wasn't necessarily predicting or pushing for the O's to do that. And really, part of the benefit of extending Hardy was so that the club wouldn't HAVE to rush Machado, so hopefully Hardy stays healthy.

I've seen Machado twice -- once at Aberdeen in 2010 and once in Wilmington last July for a Keys/Blue Rocks game. First thing that stands out about him is that he's one of those players that looks like an all-star coming off the bus. Then you see him on the field and you think, "future star shortstop." He has the good face. WHO'S FABIO???? http://www.youtube.c...h?v=sd4_1_R9aSk He's a tall, lanky kid with obvious room to fill out, whereas Schoop looks sturdier. The main thing coming out of the Wilmington game that I had in mind was that Machado SEEMED (not a scout) to struggle at picking up breaking stuff away, which I'd imagine is very much normal for a 19-year-old. A lot of big leaguers struggle with that.

Generally speaking, I think Duquette is right about the shortstop thing. Keep shortstop an option for both players until it becomes obvious that shortstop won't work out for them for whatever reason. Why not keep that option open? And generally, if you can play shortstop, you can play elsewhere too. Second and third are easier positions and the player should be able to slide over to either and do fine, and if you have the arm for short, you probably have the arm for right field too. The problem here is that both are too good at this point for Delmarva, so that's not an option. That leaves Frederick and Bowie as the only places.

Again, these guys did fine in the Carolina League last year (about league average with the bat at age 19 for both), but their performances did not exactly yell PROMOTE ME AT THE FIRST POSSIBLE CHANCE!!! Why rush either up to Bowie? Let their performances (and I'm not necessarily just talking about stats, I'm talking about HOW they're doing it too) dictate when they get moved up? If Machado's lighting it up after six weeks, move him up to Bowie and let Schoop stay in Frederick to play short. Let it work itself out. But maybe Machado looks fantastic in Sarasota and the coaches think he's ready for Bowie. I don't know. I suppose we'll find out not too long from now.

He, Bordick and Bobby Dickerson think he'll stay at short for years to come. I look forward to watching him grow into a big leaguer.

Bordick is a very strict teacher and very hard to impress from everything I've heard. Hearing him say such good things about Machado is very good.
