Avery says hello.

I won't judge for a while, Span was a similar player, and he's valuable. I wouldn't have gone the same route, but c'est la vie.

Yah at drafting Xavier Avery again.

The O's suck at drafting outside the top 5.

Hart is a decent pick.  Nothing to complain about.

BA's Scouting Report from May 17

57. Josh Hart, of
Parkview HS, Lilburn, Ga.
A third-team All-American, Hart never gets included in the same class of prospects as fellow Georgia prep outfielders Clint Frazier and Austin Meadows of Loganville. He’s a different kind of player because power isn’t a major part of his game, but he’s not far off from them as a prospect. Hart has been a winner, playing for Parkview teams that won Georgia state titles in 2011 and 2012 as well as BA’s national championship last year. He has his detractors, as some scouts don’t like that he doesn’t involve his lower half in his swing. Nevertheless, Hart has excellent hand-eye coordination, generates good bat speed and has a knack for finding the barrel of the bat. He consistently sprays line drives from gap-to-gap, has some polish in his plate approach and should be able to develop the plate discipline to become a leadoff factor. Scouts have reported him as a 60 runner turning in 4.0-second times to first base from the left side. His speed also plays in center field, where he shows some polish as well. The Georgia Tech signee performed most of the spring and was expected to go out in the first round or supplemental round.

What about "upside?"

Very interested to see how Dan Duquette and co do between the scouting/player development sides. We likely won't really know for another 3-4 years, but still fun.

Exactly.  People are judging the picks based on past Oriole draft performance.  This is a new group.  I will readily admit that I know nothing other than what I read about the first 2 picks.  Some are focusing on the past regimes failures and are picking apart the kids.  Time will tell.

Slap hitter this high is really disappointing. Looking at the video this guy legs out some hits that won't happen in the majors. I'm thoroughly unimpressed. Good 1st pick but this ones a throw away IMO.

From Coker's post above, I really like the fact that he's got a polished approach. "Potential lead off" is a nice thing. Should take pitches, work the count, OBP. Seems to be far less raw than some of the other "athletes" Rob is referring to when he cringes at the word. We'll see how he pans out. I obviously worry about the lack of power for a corner OF spot, but if they can get him to use his lower half more in his swing, maybe the power potential is there, just untapped?

I'm always willing to give a new regime a semi-clean slate. A say semi because Angelos is still there. It's not Houston where it's new everything almost.
