Yeah I kinda felt the same way about Anderson, that's why I was pretty meh on him.

 

I would have rather seen them take someone with a plus tool like Clarkin and Kaminsky with their plus-plus Curveballs, or Judge with his plus power.

He's got room to fill out. Could add a couple mph there. If he does I like him a lot better. I don't see the CV potential some do, looks like an average pitch to me. The CH isn't very good.

 

I called them going FB/CV/CH HS pitcher, just got the wrong one. Kaminsky has a 90-92 mph FB (like HH) but has a plus-plus CV and a CH that shows above average already, and he's a lefty.

 

STL popped him, so you know he's going to be a stud and make me look super smart in a couple years...the problem is no one will remember this in 3 years and I'll still be doing this on message boards

I agree. I liked Kaminsky and Gonzalez bore than Harvey.

 

 

Now, all I've seen is some of the videos posted here but the curve ball didn;t look that impressive to me in the videos.

It's a HS kid, it's not where it will be. But he and Clarkin have very similar CV, hard, good control, big break, like a 11-5 break on it. Right NOW it's probably a 65-70, but it will be an 80.

I'm farther from being an expert in evaluations than just about everyone here probably, but from what I read this kid has reliever written all over him if he's ever going to make the big leagues.

Eh I mean, he's got projectability, he could be better than that. He's not filled out or grown up yet. I wouldn't get too down on it yet, let's let him play a year or two first. Just not the way I would have gone, I liked those other kids better.

He certainly seems to love and have a passion for playing baseball, that never hurts. Just that in looking at the report (low 90's FB, struggles with command, just 2 pitches) there would seem to be a very wide chasm between where he is now and a ML rotation.

He's 18. What do you expect? Not everyone is Dylan Bundy and Kevin Gausman.

Like I said earlier, we'll get to really see if our PDev system has improved the next couple of years. No point in really getting all worked up on June 6th about a guy most of us have never even heard of before. All about projectability, and development. We'll see.

Harvey is a very solid pick.  I would have gone with Ervin, but I have no complaints with Harvey.  Great upside.

I really do not know much about the kid, other than what is written, like most I have never seen him but he is 18 and less than 170 lbs.  My guess is as he fills out the velocity goes up a tick or two.  Those penciling him in as a reliever alredy or third or 4th stater are being a little negative.  They took a ride on his upside.  We will see.

As Gausman made it to the majors really fast and Dylan Bundy has already been up here, I think this is the first major test of the Duquette era. It will be interesting to see for sure, completely concur with your thoughts. I know some on here spend more time than others on the Draft. Like you, I can't get worked up one way or another, for something that is at minimum 2 years away and likely atleast three. That said, the Draft and player development process is exciting to watch. Although, hopefully with summers like the last one, I doubt the appeal of the next superstar in the system will be the same as it once was.
