Ken Venturi, 1964 U.S. Open Champion and longtime CBS golf broadcaster, died Friday afternoon following a recent succession of maladies, 11 days after he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, and two days after his 82nd birthday.

Very saddening for me. Even though perhaps most people my age ("Millennials") only started watching golf after Tiger Woods came to prominence, I started watching at a young age, still in the 1980s. Ken Venturi was a mainstay as I watched golf from then right up to his retirement. He was certainly one of the all-time greats in the booth, I think, and no slouch on the course. It was really too bad what injuries did to his playing career, but I always accorded his abilities and his perseverance great respect. The golf world will certainly miss him.
