I was too but hearing that Ted doesn't want to use them.

Has Ted been studying from the Peter Angelos owner manual?

Yeah, really. That's just being cheap.

Guess I wasn't hearing the WHOLE truth, they are buying out Schultz, but no word on the other one. (Had him as my 3rd most likely to get bought out) but yeah the word was that they didn't want to pay people to play other places, were working on trading them outright.

Mike Ribeiro’s wife ‘pissed beyond belief’ over Capitals’ decision not to sign him

From Mr.s Ribeiro's twitter (which now seems to be offline):

"Nothing like being uprooted from your home for a year for absolutely no apparent reason #pissedbeyondbelief"

"@MoniHyberova will miss you my sweet Sista from another country.  Not looking good for us to return. #sad"

http://sports.yahoo....-131504760.html

It seems like twitter is bad enough for professional athletes and if I was lucky enough to be one the last thing I would want is my wife on it mouthing off.

With that said; hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha

She should be pissed her husband was demanding 5 years at $5m per. Not worth that for his age. If being in one place long enough for the kids to graduate HS was THAT big of a deal they would have come down on the $$$ and it would have gotten done.

To be fair... other than the money, I feel bad for athlete's families sometimes with this stuff. You can't put a price tag on calling a place "home", and having the familiarity and sense of community that comes along with it. That said, as Jeremy said... her husband was being unrealistic, so he could have avoided this if that was so important to him.

Ribiero, Hendricks, Schultz all gone. No rumors of any trade talks or FA signings.

Business as usual in D.C.!

Stop it. Don't be that guy. They have made FA moves every year for years, don't act like these are the O's.

Don't expect a big flashy signing (go look back at the last 4 years of big contracts and let me know how many worked out when not an extension), but they do need to figure out the 2nd line again.

Given the chips that have fallen to this point (some BIG deal today)... what's your plan moving forward.

Agree with this post, BTW... Caps traditionally do very well in the off-season.

I think they are laying back to see what kind of bargains they can find. They want to keep to 3 years and shorter in terms and want to retain their own talent. They like their young D, goalie they are set, and are really looking for role players.

Like I said before ownership doesn't want to pay guys to play somewhere else (Schultz was in the last year of his deal) but I would amnesty Ward (grinding 3rd line wingers should be $1m or less) I would have kept Hendy and dropped Ward if you don't want to make an aggressive move, but they probably let Wilson take a role next year and don't need him and Hendy at almost $2m.

Penner is a guy I would REALLY shoot for, could play LW or RW and would solidify that 2nd line, Iginla on a short term deal could fit well on the 2nd line, Scott Gomez could be a fit if he'd sign cheap. Ultimately it's probably a trade that happens and not a FA.

Maybe a bad deal for bad deal with Ward for a C somewhere? I dunno.

Ultimately I'm still haunted by that Erat deal, I look at the Bobby Ryan deal to OTT today, and think that Forsberg, Grubauer, Schilling and a 1st would have SMOKED what OTT gave up, and a 1-2 punch of Ovi and Ryan would have been dominating in the East.

Agreed on the Ryan deal... I had the same thought. I know the scouts weren't sold on him in WAS, but I'm sure some teams would have been enamored with him. Still not happy with that.

Yeah I mean I would have just held him out of the ahl and traded him in the offseason would have had the same effect. Ryan is expensive but in this offense with nicky and ovi would have been dirty.

I can't remember where I posted my prediction on Alzner's contract, but I know I was close. 4 years $11.2m, so a little less than $3m per. I wanna say I guessed around $2.75m based on Carlson getting almost $4m.
