While I am excited for Len to become active, I've been pleased overall by what the Terps have gotten so far out of Padgett, Pankey, and Weijs.

I thought before the year started that each of this trio had good athleticism, could run the court well, and help by blocking shots and getting on the glass. They've provided more offense than I expected.

After last night, their individual averages are:

Padgett: 25 mts per game, 9.3 ppg, 6.4 boards, .516 FG%
Pankey: 22.6 mts per game, 6.4 ppg, 5.9 boards, .476 FG%
Weijs: 16.1 mts per game, 3.8 ppg, 3.0 boards, .652 FG%

Padgett has scored in double-figures 5 times, and has 6 games with at-least 7 rebounds.

Pankey has scored 13 points 3 times, and has 3 games with at-least 8 rebounds. He is also shooting 72% from the line, and has 6 games with at-least 1 block.

Weijs has scored at-least 4 points in 6 games, and has 6 games with at-least 3 rebounds.

It will be interesting to see how the minutes change with Len available. Clearly Auslander will no longer be averaging 9.3 mts per.

But just think what an athletic 7 footer can do that will allow the floor to open. If he can command a double in the low post, it should open up the floor. As you said, they are athletic bigs and wonder what they can provide off ball in the high post and driving into the paint.

I think you can be happy given the low expectations for the front court. These guys certainly aren't major assets out there, but they haven't been liabilities yet either, although we haven't played many teams I'd consider strong on the inside. I'm very interested to see just how good Len can be. If he's a legit ACC big, then sliding Padgett to the 4 in a secondary role, rather than being our premiere interior player, and the lineup looks a lot better.

I like Pankey a lot, and think he's got a shot to be a much bigger contributor down the road. Sort of like Dino did, although I don't know if his defense will ever be up to the level that Dino was capable of playing.
