I don't know much about this guy, but just from looking at his numbers he seems like a better fit than the kid from Rutgers.  40% from 3 his first two seasons and climbed to 44% last year.  That can replace Aronhalt's shooting.  Doesn't look like he's been much of a distributor as a PG, but he also doesn't appear to be a turnover machine either.  Not sure he'd step right in as the starting PG, but he sounds like the best option for a guy who can play right away and help out in the depth department.

95 career games, 31 career starts. He would add experience, and depth. Sign me up.

I had sent out a few interview requests in the last week, and had asked about Barton. Will pass on if I get any responses.

A one year kid, who would provide experience while waiting for Peters to get acclimated.  I agree a much better fit that the Rutgers 2 guard.

Would almost definitely be an upgrade over Pe'shon.  At least a solid guard option for the rotation which we sorely need.

That's disappointing. I honestly thought he was going to pick MD. Now Allen is really going to have to raise his game as a PG if the Terps are going to be a tournament team.

Not surprised.  I really thought if he was going to declare to Maryland he would have not shortly after visiting.

I really do not get too upset over a one year guy but what is a littlew concerning is Turgeon seemingly has not been able to sustain the early recruiting success he had.  Maybe it is just a numbers thing and maybe it is because Maryland is in limbo over the conference change.  Also I have to feel there is a lot of anti Maryland stuff coming from the other ACC coaches and programs on the recruiting trails.

Out of curiosity, what makes you say he hasn't been able to sustain the "early recruiting success"?

Just trying to see where you're coming from with that.

Maybe it is just a feeling.   And like I said it maybe that he has more starters in place and less playing time to offer, so the numbers hurt him, but he lost out on the Morgan kid, seems to be out on Booth, and recently lost out on 2 transfer kids that could have helped the guard situation.  I also think the conference switch may be causing a lull in recruiting.  I know Coach K criticized the move in public and I have a feeling behind the scenes, some of the ACC coaches may be bad mouthing Maryland.

I still think Turgeon is the right guy for the job but he seems to have hot a wall here.

OK.  I don't necessarily disagree, I just wanted to see what angle you were coming from.

In all honesty, I thought the recruiting success was a little overblown.  The staff landed some nice players with that first class, but they still have yet to get a really big fish.  And maybe that is their strategy, which frankly is just fine with me.  Turgeon and his staff seem more interested in finding those diamonds in the rough.

By just about all accounts Morgan was steered away from MD by his handler, who was mad because MD didn't show any interest in a similar "client" of his from the year before.  Both players ultimately went to UNLV.  Morgan's handler has continually taken potshots at MD.

He has landed Peters and Trimble and it sounds like they're in really good shape for Dion Wiley.  So I think good things are still to come.

I am sure some coaches are using the B1G switch against MD, but they can overcome that.  I'm more concerned about continued mediocrity on the court.  Turgeon needs to show that he's ready to take this program back to where it belongs.  I'm not sure that will happen next year, but I'll sure be hoping so.

I have heard similar rumors about why Morgan did not want to come.  What I find interesting is this is the type of player that Gary would have steered away from, but based on all accounts Turgeon went hard after Morgan.  I have heard that the anti Maryland bias in Baltimore cost them barton also.

I think the mediocrity you mention is largely due to lack of a point guard.  Maybe Peters gives that to them.

Great post by the way...always good to talk Terp basketball.
