After a disappointing loss at Georgia Tech, the University of Maryland is faced with a trip to Chapel Hill and a match-up against #6 Tar Heels of North Carolina.

Obviously it would be a surprise if the Terrapins, 16-12 overall, 6-8 in the ACC, pulled the upset. It will be interesting to see how the game tonight unfolds though. When these teams faced off in College Park 2/4, Maryland built a 9 point 2nd half lead, only to eventually lose 83-74. (The Terps were down 4 with 1:40 left.)

Coming in off the bench, Len had a big game with 12 points, 9 boards, and 4 blocks. Maryland got to the line, and converted once there (20 of 27). Stoglin had 20 points, 6 boards, and 4 assists; but was just 1 of 6 from 3.

UNC enters the game:

3rd overall in PPG: 81.9
1st overall in Rebounds: 45.9
5th overall in Assists: 17.6
64th overall in FG%: .462

The Terps are:

174th in PPG: 68.3
79th in Rebounds: 36.4
324th overall in Assists: 10.5

The Tar Heels are shooting 67% from the line, and 35% from 3 point land.

Gonna have to DVR this one, but I don't have a whole lot of hope for the Terps tonight.

Only real hope is that we play as well as we did down the stretch against Miami for damn near 40 minutes and UNC is looking ahead to Saturday's matchup with Duke and comes out flat.

Yeah, thought of that. Emotionally they (UNC) have to be looking ahead.

Not expecting the upset, but want to see MD battle, and some good individual games. I'd really like to see Faust and Parker go to the rim repeatedly.

Terps kept up thanks to the Heels not being able to shoot. Now they're getting killed.

Meanwhile, Zeller failed on his quest to make every single big man on Maryland foul out, because apparently Roy Williams is merciful.

Terps were going to lose this one regardless, but the officiating was absolute busch league. They were allowing UNC players to do whatever they wanted on the offensive glass, and the second Zeller went to attempt a shot, the whistle would blow. He attempted 23 free throws, MD attempted 21. It just wasn't called down the middle at all, which is disappointing. Even if it was, the Terps probably still lose by 12-14 points, but it would be better than having the Zebras decide things.

I expect this sort of thing in the NBA, but whenever officiating blatantly favors one team to this degree in college, it's a bit of a surprise. They called more fouls on UNC in garbage time, so the final story doesn't look nearly as bad as it was, but it was pretty sickening overall.

Oh well. UNC still played much better than them, no way around that.
