According to Steve Melewski - Alex Murphy (C from Calvert Hall, 6th rd) has agreed to terms with the O's, though not officially signed yet. Will head to Sarasota soon and could start at Aberdeen.

Also, when signed, the O's expect to send Tarpley to Aberdeen. See him as a starter.

Jon, good write-up as usual.
I know it's not over, but for all intents and purposes I feel that enough picks are in the books to discern an opinion... and (as usual) I came away very disappointed in the O's draft.
Drafting 4th or 5th will typically bring in a dynamic talent, and that has essentially been true, but the O's record past the 1st Round has been mostly miss. EVERY year we pass over higher rated talent (at least in the eyes of an industry composite) and are left with a system annually mediocre in talent. Olson, Beato, Avery, Givens, Klein, Esposito, and Kline round out our most recent 2nd rounders, and that's --in my view-- a lackluster bunch. I could go on, but my own record of who I would've taken (if in charge) is better than the O's over the past 9 seasons (since I began keeping record). That's pretty sad. Maybe the O's have had a run of bad luck, or maybe it's something else. Either way, Gary Rajsich deserves a chance to let his record speak for itself... and I hope his choices work out better than his predecessors.
Again, I enjoy reading you here Jon.

Greg, you make some good points, but I'm willing to see how this goes the next few years. At the end of the day, what was the bigger problem the past several years... the drafting, or the player development? I'm sure both played a role, but to me, it's definitely clear that the player development has stunk.
Duq seems to be really focused on that end (as does Buck, visiting minor league games regularly on O's off days, getting daily reports, etc.). So it'll be really interesting to see how some of these guys pan out over the next few years.

I think it is fine going after high upside guys like Beato, Avery, Givens, and Klein. In this draft...I think they did overlook highly ranked guys in the 3rd round. Otheriwse...I think they did go after the home runs.
Who do you think they should have gone after?
