Bill Austin. Now there's a name you don't hear much anymore.

Interesting to note, however, that when the Steelers decided to move on from Austin following the 1968 season, their first choice was Joe Paterno, then in only his third year at Penn State. The Steelers' $70K annual salary offer dwarfed the $20K Paterno was making at PSU, but he ultimately turned down the job because he felt he hadn't yet accomplished what he wanted to at Penn State.

Of course, we all know how things played out on both fronts.

Once they turned to Noll (who was recommended by Shula), they had to beat out the Raiders for him.  Once Noll chose the Steelers he recommended (Raiders LB Coach) John Madden to the Al Davis.  Noll and Madden had worked together with the Chargers.

Chuck Noll and his NFL championship ring from 1968 should have arrived together in Pittsburgh in 1969. But the NFL was apparently so embarrassed and humiliated over the Colts' loss to the Jets in Super Bowl III that it never issued the players championship rings. Instead, each man from that Colts team received a watch. Shows what the NFL thought of the Colts' championship season.

And yes, heavily-favored Minnesota did lose to Kansas City the following year in the final AFL-NFL Super Bowl. Yet despite allowing the AFL to pull even with the NFL for all time in the Super Bowl, the Vikings players received NFL championship rings for 1969.

McCarthey: we're going to focus on running the ball more.

Next game Dak throws 50 times and the Cowboys lose.
