Ravens coach John Harbaugh indicated that Haloti Ngata will play more true nose tackle moving forward.
"The fact that we’ve added two guys that can play defensive end definitely marks the possibility he could play inside more," said Harbaugh. "Our bellcow in there is Haloti." Ngata has generally played 3-4 end in Baltimore, with Kelly Gregg, Terrence Cody, and most recently Ma'ake Kemoeatu on the nose. The Ravens can now surround him with a rotation of Chris Canty, Arthur Jones, Pernell McPhee, and Marcus Spears, freeing up 6-foot-4, 330-poound Ngata to wreak havoc on the NFL's significantly more undersized centers.

Does this mean he will be an actual threat?

Glad to see this. I have similar thoughts about Ngata as you do, but I feel like he is going to come back with a big year this coming season. His situation reminds me of Suggs, after Suggs signed the '09 extension and had a sub-par '09, followed by big seasons in '10, and '11.

Just think Ngata is due for another season where he is healthier, and really controls the action again. I think being at NT should help with that.

I just hope winning a title and not having Ray around doesn't really effect his effort.

I honestly think being fully healthy has more to do with the answer to this question than what position he plays, but this can't hurt. I do like this move, but I just hope he's healthy. I was not happy with his conditioning and weight last year. I didn't buy the "adding muscle" bit at all.

Ngata hasn't "wreaked havoc" since the first half of 2011....ironically (or not) the same point in time when he was still playing on the franchise tag. Would like him to show up at the weight/condition he did going into that season, not the heavier version we saw last season.....WTF was up with that?

I remember him claiming it was to add muscle so he wouldn't "wear down" in the 2nd half of the season this year. I don't buy it at all.

Yeah, said it was his plan. Funny, I don't remember any quotes from the coaching staff concurring with this "plan."
