If a guy knows he doesn’t have it anymore, isn’t it helping your team more to be honest about that versus posing some male bravado that ends up costing your team?

I’m not saying he should suck it up and get the job done, keep it in house instead of complaining about it to the media. If he’s done he’s done, tell the coaches at the end of the inning. He can still be a great pitcher with that attitude but I can’t imagine Grayson, Bradish, Tyler Wells, or John Means saying something like that after a game.

That’s fair. I don’t think it’s fair to suggest he doesn’t have that dog in him though, but we can agree to disagree.

To me, the fact he cares and is emotional to the point to say this, shows he does have that dog in him. The dude cares and was pissed.

That’s old school, and I disagree. That is what we call toxic masculinity.

Also ironic given we root for a team whose front office certainly doesn’t have that dog in them, no? If they did, they wouldn’t look at “models” pre-season to decide they aren’t good enough to win the division, and act accordingly both in the off-season and at the trade deadline.

If a guy knows he doesn’t have it anymore, isn’t it helping your team more to be honest about that versus posing some male bravado that ends up costing your team?

Keep it in house. Agree with Bob in particular about the making it public part. Thats what bothered me about this. Feels like he needs to make it known that he doesnt feel like it was his fault.

Btw completely narrative driven here take here. This combined with their pen doesnt make me feel great about them beating Hou out for the division. Well not completely narrative driven. We know the BP has been super sus since they traded Sewald

Agree with this. I don't mind him feeling this or telling the coach he needs to come out, but whining to the media is the bad part, to me.

Just so we're on the same page: in the event where Kirby told Servais that he was done for the night (after the 6th inning), and Servais responded by telling him he was going to pitch the 7th anyway, Kirby should've kept all of that in-house?

(frankly - I think Kirby wished he told Servais he was done after 6, but for whatever reason, didn't.)

If he told Sevais he was done he wouldnt have been sent back out. In no world do I think that ever happens in todays game.

He expected Servais and the coaching staff to read the situation. I mean its fine to let someone know you are done. Ok with not having that "dog" in you. But my suspicion is he didnt want to ask out because of how it would play in the clubhouse. Right or wrong he was aware of the potential perception of not having that dog in him.

OK. Yeah, that obviously makes sense. Kirby's likely feeling pressure - the entire SP rotation is young (elder statesman is Luis Castillo at 30), and he leads all starters with 9 losses despite having the best FIP (3.31) in the rotation. Kirby's peripherals are nuts, too. Legit curious if he was speaking for other starters...

I mean it is true that you know how much the BP has blown games of late. So it makes sense that the manager would prefer to push his starters further. Needs to be open and honest communication both pregame and in game. Im not saying Servais has no fault in the grand scheme of all of this but its just weak for Kirby to try to pass the buck there unless of course he did ask out and was told no. Again, in no world do I think thats possible

He's more than 35 innings past his career high. Like I implied - he was probably internalizing it, but come on.. if you think Servais is creating some 'come talk to me' environment when he's already pushed the guy this far past his innings high with more than three weeks remaining in the season.

Seattle de-loading for some action.

For anyone thinking all of the risk on early guaranteed contracts is with the Player, Evan White signed a 6/24 contract pre-service and has done absolutely nothing and now is part of a salary dump (still owed 15M this year and next).  Marco Gonzolez owed 12+ M this year before FA and they sent both contracts to the Braves with flawed uber-prospect Kelenic.

Seattle has given away Suarez, non-tendered Mike Ford (walk-off vs Felix), dumped MarcoG and White....

They need a 3B, 2B, 1B/DH, LF and RF.   They have pitching to trade so they're lining up for something.

Rumor outlets have Snell with a hard-on to go home to Seattle so that's a 1-2 with Luis Castillo if they figure it out and they can add another young pitcher to the trade pile.

They could deal Gilbert to the Twins and get a load of offensive players back (Larnach, Lewis/Lee, Kriloff) that also helps MIN get some of their costs down (Kepler, Polonco)

Robbie Ray is a guy I'd (O's) check in on.  If they are looking to move salary for other moves (like Snell) maybe you get them to eat a big chunk as he returns from TJS sometime in 2024.

Dipoto going to Dipoto.
