Weird TNT TBS and TruTv are involved and CBS Isn’t

CBS has its own streaming service already, Paramount+. But if all you watch on your payTV subscription is sports, then if this service combined with Paramount+ and Peacock (NBC) cost less than the bundle, why not cut the cord? All you’d be missing is the RSN…not everyone might be willing to do without it, but I bet a bunch will.

I do sports and local news

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

First, somehow I missed that Andrew Marchand is now writing for The Athletic.

So while no announcement has been made, industry estimates put this ESPN/FOX/WBD streaming package at about $50/mo. Since it doesn't include CBS or NBC, who both carry things like NFL, college sports, the Masters, the Olympics, etc....you'll also need either OTA reception or Paramount+ and Peacock if you want everything sports. The basic subscription for both of those is $5.99/mo. So for all that combined you'd be playing about $62/month.

Compared to YouTubeTV, which now comes in at almost $73/month for the basic subscription, you'd save 10 bucks a month. That said, with YTTV you get everything under one roof and don't have to switch apps if you want to move from one channel to the next. And of course YTTV, et al offer a ton of other channels. Worth the extra price? I imagine opinions will be mixed on that.

Also, none of these standalone streaming services offer your local channels at the basic price....you only get the network programming, so you'd miss local news unless you want to go to a more expensive plan, which doubles the monthly price....and right now that's just for Paramount+ and Peacock (we don't know yet if that will be an option for this new service). Of course you can just go with an antenna for local news, but again, that means more switching around with TV inputs as opposed to seamlessly changing channels.

I believe FuBo has everything plus MLB network.

MLB network is why I left YouTube tv originally. Can’t believe they haven’t brought it back

Nick Saban is joining the cast of College Gameday on ESPN starting this fall. He's done appearances for them before and seemed to have a knack for it. That said, it's going to be pretty crowded on that set with him joining Davis, Howard, Herbstreit, Corso and McAfee....and then there's the segment where they bring in the guest picker. Better have a wide-angle lens on the main camera.

Is he gonna be sitting at the desk? Corso I think will continue to see his role reduced. The man is gonna be 89 when next season starts

Yes, he's at the main desk. Feels like Corso hasn't worked a full season for a while now, so some weeks it'll probably just be five.

Yeah, I'm one of the few people I know who use an antenna. It takes two button clicks to change input, and you can't beat the price. Definitely depends on where you are though, I couldn't get hardly anything when I lived in Cecil County, in Baltimore County everything is fine.

I'm probably unusual though, I only care about NFL and MLB. Other sports are complicated these days.
