Has there been any word on whether CJB will be granted an extra year of eligibility? Does anyone know if he has even applied for one? I would assume yes, but have not heard.

I know I sound like a broken record, but these next 2 years are just huge for MD football. I think this program will go one way or the other very quickly, and I think the odds are about even on which way it will go. Either Edsall and the staff will be able to coach this group of players up and the momentum will continue, or Edsall will be fired and we're back to square one, only this time we're competing in a much more difficult conference. You just aren't going to find too many coaches who are going to look forward to taking over a rebuilding MD program in the B1G.

Most of you know I've been a big Edsall supporter from the start, and I think he's gotten a tremendously unfair treatment from many MD fans, but the time is now to start showing results.

C.J. has applied for an extra year of eligibility, but has not been granted one. It doesn't look like he'll get it either (not really sure why). It's good to hear there's another Edsall supporter out there, sometimes I feel like I'm the only one. I've also been behind him 100% from the beginning, and still feel the same way about him. You saw his coaching ability last season with the mediocre/unproven/young talent. This team has room to grow, and just has to stay healthy.

This whole medical redshirt/6th-year thing just sounds like another one of the NCAA's vagaries, where they either play favorites or just throw darts at a board to determine who is granted what. Very annoying and frustrating. The FBS schools can't break away from them soon enough.

My opinions on Edsall haven't changed a whole lot. In my estimation, he will always deserve very low marks for how he handled the transition in his first year. He seems to have improved significantly with regard to how he presents himself to the public, partially at the urging of the university I would imagine. And the recruiting looks promising. Last season it was apparent that the team was on the right track early on....and most importantly the players played hard and didn't quit, even once the season became a lost cause. At the same time, despite the rash of injuries they let some very winnable games slip away (UConn, NC St, BC). The Terps are never going to be the sort of program that has the margin for error to let games like that get away from them, especially in the Big Ten. That needs to change.

I still believe this season is make-or-break for Edsall, or at the very least it SHOULD be. 5-year plans to build a program are a thing of the past (and it's not like MD really needed much "building" in the first place). With the amount of parity in college football today, 3 years is plenty of time to start seeing results.

Just a note: Michigan QB Devin Gardner was granted a 6th year of eligibility for a previous injury, he will be a RS Junior this year just like C.J. Hopefully they aren't playing favorites, but it seems as if they are.

Joe Riddle is an interesting factor at running back this season. He's obviously overshadowed by Wes Brown, Brandon Ross, and Albert Reid, but is having a great spring. It'll be interesting to see if he gets any playing time in 2013.
