Teams will just collapse hard anytime we drop the ball down low. I mean you guys would be complaining if Len and Mitchell were throwing up heavily contested shots against two players as well. At least you should complain about that. I mentioned this the other day during the Wake game and I saw it again tonight. This team has improved at moving the ball offensively and getting the open man the look. It's just that these players can't knock down a relatively uncontested jumper with any regularity. Thats why I said earlier, this is the worst jump shooting team I've ever seen. I mean they get good looks and still throw up horrible bricks.

Blame Turg all you want, and again he's not completely blameless, but you can't be as poor at shooting, ballhandling, passing as this team is and have any consistency. The game will either slow down for some of these guys or we are in trouble for the next few years. Thats the bottom line. These young kids have to get better in multiple areas.

He recruited a lot of these kids - if they have no BBall IQ, and they really don't, how is he not to blame for that? It's pathetic.

Yeah, it's one of two things. Either he recruited a team full of players that are uncoachable and/or have low basketball IQs, or he is being outcoached and not doing a good job with this group.

Yeah - I hope it's the recruiting piece to be honest. I'd be much more worried if it's a coaching thing - and given his past track record, I don't think it is.

And Turgeon is largely responsible for helping them make those improvements.

To be clear, I'm not trying to bury Turgeon here. He's forgotten more about basketball than I know, and I still think he'll do a good job here. I think his talent evaluation is his first few years has been outstanding.

I do think he's done a poor job of coaching this team, this year, but that does not mean I think he's a poor coach. There's a learning curve for him as well. I am not sure what any numbers say, and frankly I don't care, the ACC is a step up from the Big 12 as a basketball league. He is learning as well. I just think that, for a guy who had a reputation as such a great COACH, his performance from that aspect has been disappointing so far.

We'll agree to disagree. Again, I'm seeing better shot selection and better execution than a month ago. This team is making better decisions, they just can't finish plays.

Think it's more of an execution thing. The players just aren't finishing strong when they need to all the time.

Yep, that's been a main issue all year. Also put up 23 three point shots, which they have no business doing, especially since they only hit 3 of them.

Really disappointed to see Cleare get only 4 minutes.

I saw very little of this game but 23 shots is appalling and plays into the hands of a smaller, quicker team like UNC.

Duke will shoot a lot of 3s because its a strength of theirs but I hope they go to Plumlee and Kelly down low on Saturday. The new UNC lineup is big for them...they are much better but they are small and you have to take advantage of that.

I'm definitely still a fan of Turgeon, to be clear. He has some work to do, but I believe in him and think he'll get it done here.

That little lapse at the end of the first half seemed to really take the wind out of their sails. All in all they had played a solid first half and it looked like they would go down at the half by no more than 2 points. But then they allow Carolina got another bucket followed by a sloppy turnover by Padgett and a quick 3 by UNC and just like that they are down by 7 at the half.

Another disappointing loss for the Terps.

The song remains the same, poor decision making, terrible outside shooting (3 of 23 from 3) and lack of consistent offense. They competed for stretches but couldn't keep it together to the surprise of no one.

This is a different North Carolina team than we saw several weeks ago. They've adopted a Duke mentality offensively. Surround a lone post with slashers/shooters, spread the floor and be a threat. It worked quite well as the Tar Heels had 3 starters in double figures while the other two had 8 and 9. They are also much more confident and never appeared to shake even when MD made a few runs at them.

Alex Len's disappearing act is frustrating. The Heel simply doubled him and he was unable to find the open man. Soon after players stopped looking way and instead hit James Padgett who did a fairly nice job on the blocks. Fran Fraschilla had a great point last night about MD's post entries. Their angles are too high. You must be below the foul line to deliver the ball and most times they weren't.

Back to UNC they were Duke-like in another way - 3pt. shooting. (10 for 24) 41%. As Bill Raftery often says a three can be a "dagger" and there was no better example of that as the half closed and the Terps were down 7. Huh? It was back and forth game until under two minutes. The Heels never looked back.

Nick Faust looked comfortable last night. Shot with confidence and took the ball to the rim. Now let's see some consistency.

I've preached patience with Coach Turgeon and I still do to degree. He needs more time to develop his players and program. As I've said before he didn't come into an ideal situation where the cupboard was stocked nor did he get a chance to recruit until this upcoming season. That said I'm getting sick of his post-game press conferences. I need to see leadership from him. I'm sure he's working hard with them every day to fix their mistakes in practice. But this "woe is us" attitude is getting stale.

This. A thousand times this. I'm tired about hearing how every team in the ACC is "tough to guard." I'm sorry, but I don't buy that about teams like BC or Va Tech.

I'm also having a hard time with Coach talking about how the team isn't listening to him, bringing effor to practice, etc. When he stripped Padgett and Howard as captain and declared himself the captain of the team, he also brought it upon himself for his team to be ready to play and practice.

Honestly, the biggest concern I have right now is the communication issues between Turge and the team. I'm hoping this gets rectified next year.
Perception is reality.
