Oden had another microfracture surgery on his knee yesterday (his third), and now his career might be in jeopardy. The Oden/Durant debate was fun a few years ago, but looking back it's really a shame for Portland. If Brandon Roy and Oden could have stayed healthy, who knows how good this era could have been for them. Hope the kid can recover and play again.

Great point about Oden and Roy. You just never know. Besides looking like the oldest Freshman ever, Oden was so impressive at OSU. You feel bad he never got a chance to experience full health as a pro.

He's only 24 (despite appearing to be 64), and I'm assuming in ok physical health otherwise. There's still a chance he can help somebody next year, but most likely will never be worthy of the #1 pick, and certainly not over Kevin Durant.

I feel really bad for Greg. I have a friend who is a HUGE Blazers fan, so I've followed this situation a bit more closely than I typically would have.
Oden is a good dude. Unlike many players who never live up to expectations or their contract, he has expressed on multiple occasions that he feels really bad about letting down the franchise, fans, and teammates. In a game where players seem to rarely show remorse or caring for some of these things, it's refreshing to see a guy with this sort of outlook.
Also, when healthy, he's played very well. Better than Durant? No, of course not. Worthy of the #1 pick? Well, probably not that either. But he has played well, particularly defensively and on the glass. His per 36 numbers in 08-09 and 09-10 were very respectable.
The sad thing is, I'm just not sure he's ever going to have a career. It's basically ended before it ever started. He's only 24, but he has no knees, which completely limits him going forward. I think the best case scenario for his career going forward would be him being able to play 10-15 minutes per game off the bench. I just can't see his body being able to handle a whole lot more unless something dramatic happens. I'll absolutely be rooting for him though.
