I found the aggregate scoring interesting, but don't like it. I would rather see a best of 3.

He certainly gave them additional buzz at the start, but I think the novelty wore down. Is anyone sad to see him go? Ultimately, I think it's a help though. "Since his arrival, the expansion fee for an MLS franchise has quadrupled to $40 million. The league, which once paid to have its games broadcast on television, next season will begin banking $10 million a year from NBC in addition to rights fees from Univision and ESPN. And that's just a fraction of the value of the Galaxy's new contract with Time Warner Cable, which is expected to pay the team $55 million over 10 years to jump from Fox Sports West to a fledgling regional cable network.
The Galaxy, the league's marquee franchise, is estimated to be worth more than $100 million, and attendance around the league is way up — this year the MLS regular-season average climbed 7% to 17,872, better than last season's NBA and NHL figures."

At first watching Beckham play for the Galaxy was exciting. I've always liked soccer, but I never could sit through an entire MLS game. Eventually the novelty of Beckham wore off, but watching him play against the rest of the league got me interested in the league as a whole. The MLS on TV has gotten better as ESPN, FSC and NBC have gone out and gotten real announcers and analysts. So overall I think the Beckham experiment worked when you break it down piece by piece.

I look at from more of an outsiders perspective, since I'm not really a soccer fan. I just don't think he had as big of an impact as it's being made out to be. I don't think he became Wayne Gretzky.From the article I linked (this was last year):

Sure, the league grew, but how much of that is just coincidence? I didn't realize how much the Galaxy's TV rights were. I guess he's probably partially responsible for that at the least. But it's probably somewhat due to the fact of the LA market as well.
In terms of attendance, it's not comparable for a multiude of reasons. First, NBA/NHL arenas are smaller for the most part. Second, there are less games in MLS. Third, my guess is it costs less to go to an MLS game. Fourth, if you want to look at the ratings, atleast with the NBA, they are substantially higher. RFK seats 45k for example (after the Nats renovation), they close the upper deck. If they could draw that figure, they'd keep it open. Do we compare baseball and football attendance figures?
