Love it for the Padres, good return for the Rays if you have to trade a borderline ace on a team friendly contract for three more years...

BREAKING: The San Diego Padres are finalizing a trade to acquire former Cy Young winner Blake Snell from the Tampa Bay Rays for prospects.
I like it for both teams. The Padres are going for it, but need to beat the defending World Champs. The Rays get a top pitching prospect which they are great at developing.

Clevinger, Nola, Rosenthal, Snell- all acquired via trade for notable returns. Padres still have 2 of the top prospects in baseball plus Campusano who I put ahead of Joey Bart, just behind Rutschman, for top catching prospect in baseball (as long as the state of Georgia doesn't ruin Campusano's career with a weed charge).
Preller continues to Preller.

Also appears that Ha-Seong Kim is likely going to San Diego. https://www.sandiego...e-snell-preller
If Cronenworth is moving to the outfield, I imagine Wil Myers is traded soon to clear salary cap space. His deal begins to balloon pretty quickly.

Padres are not done. It looks like Yu Darvish is heading to San Diego.
Yep, for Zach Davies and four prospects outside of their top 10.

Davies is becoming well travled. The Padres are doing all they can to challenge the Dodgers. I like it.

Very wow. Doesn't feel like much of a discount for locking in so early. One pre-arb year, three arb years, and then ten FA years. I'd quickly guess that Tatis would've made $45M the next 4 years if no extension, so it's basically the Manny deal after the arb years.
Agree with Wow and agree with the rest of it. It's 4 years of TC + Machado.
Good for them both. He's guaranteed 340M in his life and gets to live in SD forever.
14 years will put him #2 All Time across the Padres leaderboards and we'll see where he over-takes Gwynn. Certainly likely for the power and run production numbers (R, HR, RBI) and we'll see where he goes on the rate stats.

Awesome time to be a Padres fan.
Nice to be Tatis Jr, too.

Looks like Tatis had the same kind of deal as Schoop, where he gave up future earnings in exchange for up-front money. Tatis signed his deal when he was 19 and about to start his first season in AA, so hopefully he didn't give up too much.

I'm surprised Tatis would sign this since it's not like he was poor beforehand. Though I'm assuming he's got a good relationship with his father.

Full NTC, and he gets to spend the next fourteen years of his life in San Diego with a core of amazing players. He's going to make bank in advertising, too.

No, I'm talking about the deal he signed in the minors to give away a portion of his future earnings for some up front cash. Like Schoop did.
