There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note
"Now OPS sucks. Got it."
"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."
"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

Giants sign Jung Hoo Lee from the KBO for 6/$113M (plus $18M posting fee). 25 y/o outfielder with insane hit tool (340 BA and 7.7% K-rate for his career) but not much pop (150 ISO). Deal has an opt-out after 4 years.

Hyun Soo Kim had more power, but less of a hit tool and did pretty well here in Baltimore when he got a chance to play. Unfortunately, Buck was never a fan so he didn't get much of a shot.

Ha-Seong Kim has been very good for SD the last two years. Not an overwhelming stick but speed and very good D. 7 mil a yr. Im not sure Id be spending big money relying on a Korean bat to carry. If its someone like SD's Kim that also brings more of a total package then maybe. Choo has been the only really good Korean bat to ever play in America

Wow, good for him, but I don't think he's worth that. He is young though so maybe he's coming into his power. I like Santander ALOT more, Anthony should be in line for at least that.

Giants agree to 3/54M deal with Chapman.
Way, way, way short of the ridiculous predictions and expectations of Boras.
Another contract in the perceived loss column. Everyone ignores this stuff in other discussions.

Originally posted this in the MLB thread, but in the name of continuity I'll relocate it here.
Chapman reportedly gets $20 million this season, $18 million in 2025, and $16 million in 2026 should he play out the contract full term. He can also opt out after every season and test free agency again.
Since Chapman turned down a QO from Toronto, the Giants will lose their second round draft pick this year as well as $500K from their international bonus pool. That seems like quite a bit for what could prove to be a one-year rental.

2/$62M. Basically a $32M salary for 2024 (with $17M deferred to 2026 which slightly lowers the NPV and luxury tax calculation of Year 1 to about $30.6M) and a $30M player option for 2025. He cannot be offered a qualifying offer after the season as players can only get that once in their career now.
Really interested to see when he can get on the mound. Even missing just 3-4 weeks would cost SF a significant portion of the money they are paying him to pitch this year and probably not again.
