Since the rumors about Shane Cockerille are out there, I can confirm (via a conversation with Shane's dad) he has been approached many, many times at practice by Brett Bielema. He has been trying to sway him, but Shane is having none of it. He is solidly committed to Maryland, and the Arkansas visit was nothing more than a formality.

Wonder if this is in any way related to Dontre Wilson switching his commitment from Oregon to Ohio State yesterday.

EDIT:

247 has Maryland 34th...
http://247sports.com...iteTeamRankings

They rank MD's class 8th overall in the ACC... it would be the 6th ranked class in the Big Ten.

I would think potential signings of Ngakoue and Jacobs would bump those rankings up a few notches. In any event, I think the staff feels better about this class than the rankings would suggest. Lot of potential sleepers in this one.

Taivon Jacobs officially jumps from OSU to UMD. Very big for the Terps. Depending on how Long and Jacobs adjust, you could be looking at a truly elite receiving corps in the next few years.

Jacquille Veii commits as well (sorry, no link yet).

Pretty much a clean sweep of what MD was hoping for, and sounds like no "bad" surprises either. Good day for MD football.

Yeah, getting 3 local guys in the last day who were on the fence (with other BCS schools, no less) is pretty damn good. Overall, a solid group, especially for a team that is 6-18 over the past two seasons.

Congrats to all recruits signing today. 5* or No-star, doesn't matter. It's all about the work you put in & sacrifices you make #Former2Star

Terps got a great class this year. Deon Long, Derwin Gray, Shane Cockerille, Will Likely III, Andrew Isaacs, Yannick Ngakoue, Taivon Jacobs. And that's just the upper tier. Great job by Randy Edsall, Mike Locksley, and staff. As long as they can stay healthy, they should have a 7-9 win season in reach. They did last year until the quarterback situation.

I spoke to Coach Edsall today. I understand why many don't like him, but every time I speak with him I can't help but buy in a little more. Anyway, he told a pretty funny story about fearing for his safety and having to call 911 while trying to recruit down in "the Muck" in Belle Glade.

Edsall continues to impress in the recruiting area. Nice job. Now he's just gotta translate that to some wins and continue to keep his damn mouth shut as often as possible.

If we get some even halfway decent QB play, the team next year could be really good. Diggs and Long are going to probably be the best WR tandem in the ACC, plus you'll have Jacobs and the guys who return in the mix. That's a strong WR corps. They lost some talent on defense, so I expect a bit of a dropoff, but the D was quite good last year, so even a step down from that will certainly be passable and maybe some of these newer guys will make some impact.

Just wanted to point out that Jacobs may very well redshirt this year due to a recent knee surgery. Even so, the Terps' receiving corps is very strong with Diggs and Long. And don't forget about Marcus Leak, he's going to be big for this team. The defense will be young, but lots of talent there. The defensive backfield is only losing Eric Franklin. These young linebackers will have to step up (Cavon Walker, Yannick Ngakoue, Jermaine Carter, etc.). It'll be interesting to see who gets some of the starting jobs on the D-Line and at LB. Alex Twine and L.A. Goree have been in the system a few years, it's their time to shine. Abner Logan could play a big role after being redshirted last year.
