Not NCAA, but the MIAA Lacrosse Championship (routinely the best high school lax conference in the country) was tonight between the Loyola Dons and the Boys Latin Lakers. BL came in undefeated in the season and #1 in the country. Loyola just got into the tournament and made a run upsetting Gilman and McDonogh.

BL started the game on a 6-0 run. Loyola stormed back to tie it at 7 in the 3rd quarter. BL went up again 9-7, but Loyola responded with 3 consecutive goals to win the MIAA Championship and shock the high school lax world.

I'm not a big lacrosse fan at all but I went to cheer on my alma mater. Roll Dons Roll!

Interesting. Yeah, I wish SU had some better seating conditions, too, but I don't know how often the stadium actually gets filled. Of course for War on the Shore/Homecoming football/Family Weekend football it's pretty much a lock, but when else? I'm glad they've prioritized academic facilities, but it would be nice to see Sea Gull Stadium get some upgrading - just not so much that it takes away from the intimate setting.

Meant to reply to this other day but got sidetracked.  Fully agree with you about the Stadium, the Gym needs a serious overhaul or a new building built too.  Every academic building has got something new so it's time to update the athletic facilities.  Salisbury has some of the best D3 athletic teams in the country it's not asking too much that the facilities see some updates/improvements.

In other news I went to the the Salisbury-Stevenson game yesterday with my dad and a friend.  It wasn't much of a game at all.  Salisbury looked sloppy on offense, not much movement and most of their shots came from the outside.  The defense seemed off their game as well.  Countless times they weren't sliding when someone got beat which lead to many easy scoring opportunities for Stevenson.  Stevenson's faceoff man was a beast,  he abused the Gulls in the X all night.  Must've won 80% of the draws.

Yeah, Stevenson had Salisbury's number this year. Hopefully the Gulls can bounce back next year. It seems like they'll win a couple titles, be off for a year or two, then win another title or two. Meanwhile, the women won the national title on Sunday - second one for them.

I think the athletic facilities might get a more serious look after work gets going/is completed on the Academic Commons, which is supposed to open in 2016. That building will be bringing the library and the Nabb Center (the historical research place on Power Street by the parking office) together, with other things, and will be where Carruthers is now. The facilities master plan was last updated in '09, and athletic facility upgrades were on the back end of it.

Kind of OT, but the Big East is adding Denver for lacrosse.

I know Denver has been pretty good for a while now, but my stepdaughter earned a free ride to play women's lacrosse in Ohio starting in the fall. It will be their second year in existence and as more schools add a lax program the scholarships are there to be had. Anyway, my point is that more and more schools are adding lacrosse across the country and that's only going to be good for the sport.

Apparently I missed this the other day, but apparently Hopkins is joining the Big 10 in 2015.  This is pretty exciting to have both Maryland and Hopkins in the Big 10.  Between those two Ohio State and Penn State there wil be some solid competition in the conference.

Baltimore Sun: Soldier Field, Lincoln Financial Field, Gillette Stadium named finalists for 2015-18 championships

Notably absent was the state of Maryland; Baltimore has hosted the event five times in the past decade.

The NCAA said this summer that in response to declining attendance at the event, it would consider holding the event at smaller venues, but Wednesday's announcement indicates that it will continue to hold the championships at NFL stadiums. It has done so since 2003.

The possibility of Chicago as host is in line with the NCAA's goal of expanding the sport geographically. Last season, more than 7,700 fans attended two quarterfinals at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the first-ever quarterfinal site not on the East Coast.
