Everything is subjective, and eye of the beholder.

I think The Sopranos holds up very well.  It's certainly on the Mt. Rushmore for me.

I had no problem with the ending. As Chase has said many times, it's all there.

It's certainly true that the ending of these shows has lasting impact on how they are remembered.
Some of that deserved, some of it a bit too much imo.  They are telling stories over hours and years. The previous entertainment and story-telling doesn't go away, even if you don't like the ultimate culmination / resolution.  But to be fair, again I certainly respect it has a lot of impact.  You as a viewer have that time invested in these shows / characters, and have your own ideas of how things should end. Can be disappointing when it goes another way.

Re: Finnerty / Join the Club an example of eye of the beholder... I liked it and thought it added to the overall story.

Re: Breaking Bad... I guess another example. I think Better Call Saul is a better show in that 'universe' alone.

I like it a lot and think it holds up really well on rewatches.  The humor in it is very underrated.  The gangsters misusing words when trying to sound smart is so subtly done and never gets old, terrific writing and acting.

It's behind The Wire and Breaking Bad for me both on the "my favorites" list and the "best TV show ever" list, but its on both lists.

The ending was very annoying to watch live because everyone watching it thought their cable went out.  I'm very ok with shows and movies leaving the ending as open to interpretation, like Inception.  But this ending was more like an Andy Kaufman-esque ploy to screw with the audience.  If that was the intent, then I am annoyed by it.  If that wasn't the intent, then the ending missed it's mark.

Yeah, Sopranos would be in my top 4. I think I’m okay with the end because it took a couple months to get through it. I think if I invested 8 years in the show, I would have been pissed. Pre-internet in your pocket, pre-live tweeting, pre-DVR, maybe?

Love the dark humor and the ball busting.

The misuse of words, I think one of the last episodes Tony said he “was prostate with grief”. Lol.

Apparently Chase wanted the cut to black to be three minutes long before the credits start and HBO was like, not a chance. It’s 11 seconds.

If I had to nit pick, the mob movie references were way too on the nose. Its fine to pay homage. But I mean, when they made Tony a Godfather I was like, enough already.

Looks good, but I feel like I have been hearing about this movie forever. Not usually a good sign.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Sure did but even before that it seemed like this had been a movie I’d been hearing about for a long time.

Listened to an interview with David Chase on The Big Picture podcast. Guy doesn’t strike me as a someone who would have made tv history.

“What was the meaning behind putting [something] in the beginning of Many Saints?”
“The meaning? Hmmm. I don’t know. That’s a good question.”

“Your music choices are really spot on. Is that something where you have a song in mind and write a scene around it?”
“Ummm. No.”
“A lot of filmmakers have a list of songs they would like to fit into a project one day. Do you have anything like that?”
“Huh. Nope.”

If you we're really into the show, and you saw all the call backs..... it was really enjoyable.

If you knew nothing about The Sopranos or we're just a passive fan... you probably found it to be okay.

I really enjoyed the show. Only watched it this year for the first time so I know I didn't get all the callbacks (I recognized the crow. Juniors varsity athlete comment). The movie didn't quite do it for me. It felt like they wanted to re-visit the characters in a previous time, but it felt forced. Like the scene where they get young Carmella into the movie, would have 100% been cut for time for any other reason other than it's the only scene young Carmella is in. Unless I missed a callback, it had nothing to do with anything.

I don't think it's a spoiler to say this is a Dickie Moltisanti movie a lot more than it is a Tony Soprano movie (hence shoehorning Carmella in for 30 seconds and a line or two). That was kind of a bummer, but had I known that going in, I wouldn't have been looking for more story about probably the first and most definitive anti-hero in TV history.

Uncanny how much like his dad Michael Gandolfini looks. Not just the look, but the mannerisms. How he stands, how he gives a side eye look. A part where he just kinda scratches the back of his head a certain way. All that stuff was dead on.
