I'm sure there was a conversation to try to get them to play as Oasis, but you sound like you know enough to know how stubborn the brothers Gallagher are. With as many times as the two of them have fought, broken up, and gotten back together, I'm sure we haven't seen our last Oasis concert. Closing ceremonies would have been a very cool time for a one off performance, though.

Yeah I'm a huge Oasis/Beady Eye/High Flying Birds fan. No doubt they'll get back together one day. I'm enjoying each of their music separately but it would've been cool for a one time get together.

It ended up being a great performance from Noel, possibly starting him down the path of becoming a front man of his own right and singing more lead vocals. I remember Noel making some comment about Liam between songs. "Ah, there he is!" I love the acoustic performances of 'Hello' and 'Some Might Say' from that gig.

I love it. Got to give props to that 'Live Forever' too....much better than some of the others on the "Live Acoustics" discs.

I think this is a pretty generic complaint that is more based on popular (possibly incorrect) thought than actual analysis.

I watched a decent amount of their games and I didn't see a group of individuals that didn't care about the team. I saw some guys that aren't used to playing as a team and that settled for outside shots a bit too easily. It didn't seem like watching an All-Star Game to me, though, but I don't watch a whole lot of pro basketball so I'm not the best analyst.

Yep. Of course there are some guys that play more like lordbrook's description (Kobe, Melo, MJ), but there is plenty of passing and teamwork and even those guys play much more team style ball in the Olympics because their teammates are so good.

The NBA's style of play really hasn't changed as much as people seem to think, and much of that change is due to a player that most people loved to watch and think is the best ever. MJ and the idolization of him has led to more one on one in general and more hero ball. The media and the fans are partly to blame for it as well since they expect people to be more like MJ than Magic and they make way too much over this closer nonsense and last second shots.

The most memorable thing to me was the broadcast. I watched a LOT of the Games online as well as the daytime NBC channels and the NBC primetime package. Like, multiple monitors and TV screens for 12 hours a day. It was shameful how NBC turned exciting, interesting events into just another heavily-edited episode of a reality show or singing contest.

This is crappy quality, but it's the best I could find of David Rudisha's 800meter World Record. Dude is flying, just look at his legs to see how quick his turnover is! What a race, a bunch of other guys PR'd in this race as well just trying to catch him.

Things that stood out...

On the "bad" side, Jordyn Wieber failing to qualify for the all-around final. Even though you were happy for her teammates, you could see how devastated she was.

Kerri Walsh's ridiculous play during the semi-finals against China.

The American diver (whose name I can't even remember) pretty much coming out of nowhere to win gold. I should add that diving is pretty much one of my least favorite events, and I hate that NBC shows so much of it, but this was cool.

Usain Bolt. Might be my second-most mesmerizing athlete of all time behind Bo Jackson.

Love seeing track and field success from countries like Grenada, the Dominican Republic, Uganda, etc. Means so much to those countries.

Michael Phelps skill in the pool and awkward interviews. I'll miss watching him do the butterfly. He comes out of the water so high and powerfully.

Tyson Gay finally winning a well-deserved Olympic medal.

McKayla Maroney's awkward embrace with the gymnast who beat her for gold on the vault.

Many more, but those are the ones of the top of my head.

Like the Opening Ceremony, I think it would have been better if the coverage itself was better. NBC botched it again. If they have any sense, though, they will live stream every ceremony for as long as they have the rights (which is through 2020), so people won't have to put up with their post-production garbage. I watched both ceremonies and thought they were all right overall.

Too many to list just now - maybe I will put a few together if the sub-forum stays open long enough. They were great Games, though. For all the crappy coverage, it was nice to see the Summer Games again after eight years.
