I guess I started the debate. Just to clarify my point, I don’t think Hyde was a good manager,in truth I think he was at best adequate but IMO he was better than Alby. I am not sure I have ever seen a manager so quiet and passive in a dugout. He shows no fight at all.
This team is bad in a lot of ways and I don’t think either Hyde, Manso or Alby would have much of a difference but his sitting in the dugout and not engaging when a little fire is needed is not helping
I would think most managers today are pretty passive. The days of Earl Weaver and Billy Martin are long gone. With the replay system in place, on field arguing with umpires has to be rare, although you would know better than me since you watch the games. But I think a manager's importance in whether a team wins or loses is negligible at best today. More than ever, if you don't have enough talent, there's no manager that's going to help the situation much.
