BSL: Likes And Questions As The Season Nears

Good stuff, Chris. Lots of good discussion points. I liked the Pocic acquisition but he's being brought along very slowly and I'm not sure if he's going to be ready to go Week 1. I suppose if slow playing him is better for the long run, we can bite the bullet with Bullock at center for a week or 2.

 

A question that's looming for me is the TE room. There's a lot of unknown behind Andrews and despite Andrews' resume and accolades, he's clearly in decline. This is why I thought we would've brought in Njoku but I guess it wasn't a good fit for whatever reason.

 

Can #89 turn back the clock and be that reliable option for Lamar? Will one of the other mostly unknowns behind Andrews emerge?

Some offenses heavily depend on one TE, some, multiple TE's, and some, the TE is a glorified tackle that makes a catch every once in a while. Good point. This will all be new and we're not going to know anything until things get cranking for real.

As a point of reference, in Chicago last year, TEs were targeted a combined 136 times for 92 catches. Our TEs had 123 targets for 86 grabs (bearing in mind Lamar's missed time).

In '24, our TEs had 138 targets and 106 catches. So all things being equal, it looks like fairly similar usage.

However, this year will be Doyle's first time calling the offense so who knows where that leaves things.

Bottom line, lots of questions to be answered.
